After rereading some of my posts I realise I went a bit overboard with wanting them to be prog-anything. Sorry if I seem a bit immature and/or stupid.

Sorry for not seeing this thread till now, and to Ben for the disappointing news. Remember that many of us have suggested bands that simply didn't get a yes vote from a team. For instance, the F---ing Champs are some of the most progressive metal I know but the ProgMetal team rejected them before I was even a member. I disagree but respect their decision. I'm still a huge fan of TFC and will continue to recommend them to anyone who'll listen, and the fact that they aren't on PA doesn't detract from the music.

I'm sorry to impart another piece of bad news to Ben.... My fellow Admins are in perfect agreement with us of the AR team, and don't consider the band suitable even for Prog-Related. The fact that so many sources keep calling GPS prog makes me think that some people don't really have any idea of what being prog means.

Just to confirm Raf's post's here, the admin team felt that for GPS to be included, they would need to be classified as Related to prog related.

Raff, I've not heard the GPS album, I was just commenting on something David was saying.
Apologies for the confusion. I am happy to listen to the album though, to give another opinion. Edited by Geck0 - February 15 2007 at 07:51 |

What prog means for us, for PA. I don't know but I guess there hasn't been any higher authority or any scholarly-voted decision as to what the term prog means. So I wouldn't be that radical. I agree if we say "for our definition of prog, it doesn't fit". OK, no problem. But as there will never be a single, purely objective definition of the term (even in these forums it couldn't be done), I wouldn't say every other position on the subject is ridiculous or absurd.

Wait I have one more question, a guy who took over Asia (after John Wetton left) for 15 years is only considered related to prog related since he started a different band since the original Asia was reforming (or something like that)?
Ah forget I even asked, I'll let this slide, for now |

OK, Teo, I can agree with some of your points (see the thread I opened earlier in the afternoon), but I can't really see what can be prog about GPS except the presence of Ryo Okumoto. I'd never dream of saying that DT, even if I'm not their biggest fan, are not prog. Here there are people who have a vast knowledge of music of all kinds, some of whom are even musicians, who say they are not prog. Opinions, yes, but certainly informed...

For sure...... My position is based more on the X proggier than Y factor.... GPS is way proggier than Asia... maybe they are not incredibly original, so in the end it won't hurt the Archives not having them here. But it wouldn't having them on board, also.

^ GPS proggier than Asia? Depends on the album. Window to the Soul is much less prog than Saga's album from last year (Trust).

With that I agree. But proggier than Asia, at least than "Aura" which is 1% prog, 99% elevator-pop-rock (very bad album)

^ I'm not too familiar with Asia ... I don't listen to their earlier albums unless I absolutely must.
