In terms of precedence SF Sorrow maybe argued as the second rock opera. Mark Wirtz & Keith West's Teenage Opera was started in 1966, with a couple of single releases (e.g. Excerpts From A Teenage Opera, aka  Grocer Jack* - a UK No. 1 - and Sam). However, because of the EMI record label growing cold on an initially successful project, recording became elongated through 1967 but not completed until 1968. Even then we had to wait 20+ years for a full release on album. SF Sorrow, however, is much superior.

*The satirists of Private Eye changed the lyrics of this tune and UK Prime Minister Edward Heath, got labelled Grocer Ted to that tune.

I'm definetely going to second United States of America, what an amazing album, and express my indignation that as far as I can tell noone has mentioned Love - Forever Changes. What gives? That's quite a magnificent album as well.

Wonderful album. Da Capo from '66 is equally great, and really more psychedelic.


Twink: Think Pink '70  This must be the ultimate fuzzed and stoned psychedelia album ever.


The Tea Company: Come and Have Some Tea with the Tea Company '68 This is a great forgotten psychedelia gem. Never reissued. All info I could find was this lukewarm review. But instead of reading about it, you can get it here.


Omnibus: omnibus '70 This is also brilliant.


Beauregard Ajax: Dear Priscilla '67

Children of One: Children of One. Brilliant album from USA '69, Its something like a trippy avant-psych. Easier to get into than Third Ear Band, but no guitars and it doesn't rock.

Braen's Machine Underground (Edit: the image fell out)

Exploito psych monster rarity. Recorded by Piero Umiliani at the now legendary SOUND-WORK-SHOP studio in January 1971. Release in a very limited (less than 100) library only release on Umiliani's LIUTO label. The original vinyl is practicaly impossible to find, as far as i know there is no reissue. Acid Drenched Fuzz guitar with one funky rhythm section. The drum sound its pretty interesting.

The style is not far from other ghost-groups of the same period, instrumental music that could be used as a film soundtrack, with fuzz guitar and keyboards to the fore, and probably more psych-oriented than others. It's certain that behind the name Braen's Machine hid Umiliani himself and Alessandro Alessandroni, as they appeared with their nicknames Braen and Gisteri as the album tracks composers.
