Duke, without a doubt. Never have liked Misunderstanding at all though, but the rest of it is excellent, really.

Abacab I find to be very patchy. Half of it is good, some of it is indifferent and there's one track which is the worst they ever recorded, imho.

Duke: There's a serious dip in quality from Misunderstanding until Alone Tonight, but the rest of the album flows very well. Phil's drumming on this one is outstanding and the arrangements are at least well thought out. Overall, the best album by the trio IMHO.

Abacab. Even the three decent songs were a big disappointment for me when I first heard this album, since I already knew the (much better) live versions of Dodo/Lurker, Abacab, Me and Sarah Jane . The rest is just plain terrible i'm sorry to say. Maybe the result of a change in their working methods. They had their own studio by this time and that freedom might have come with a loss of focus to go into the studio with a goal (but i'm only guessing here). One of the worst by the trio IMHO (if IT had not happened, probably THE worst).

I prefer ATTWT, but it's pretty close. Duke is a more consistent album, and better produced, but the best of ATTWT is not equalled on Duke IMO. Notably 'Down & Out' Burning Rope' 'Undertow' and 'The Lady Lies'

Duke ends very triumphantly, as Genesis have a final true prog rock blow out with 'Dukes Travels' and 'Dukes End' It also has 'Cul de Sac' and 'Man of our Times' which are good prog tracks, but I think the melodies are stronger on ATTWT.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Duke, easy

Duke's Travels
Duchess
Cul De Sac
Heathaze

I'd have to say I like Duke a little bit more than ATTWT...but that album does have the BRILLIANT Down And Out

In some ways, Duke is superior to ATTWT, notably the production which has a bit more vitality and a more natural sound. But yes, I think the best on ATTWT is better overall. 'Many Too Many' is in my top 10 Genesis tracks, prog or not.
