I've only heard it once and was err..."taken aback" would probably be the best way to put it.
Need to hear it another 4 or 5 times before I confirm that I HATE it...though of course Prog-Metal or whatever this is supposed to be, is not really my bag.

After what I've seen other people post I really thought this would be a new Linkin Park album of some kind.. but it really is typical PoS material, with a few exceptions. Most of it rather pleases me. And I've heard every PoS album up to date .
But of course, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and I won't disagree with them. |

Listening a third time and my opinion is now that it is a very good album indeed and I like it a lot. Can't stop playing it at the moment.

I'm going to have to side with Snow Dog here. I've listened to it again and I'm liking it more and more. I'd still like to hear that melodic side of PoS, however. I can't get the chorus of "Spitfall" out of my head at the moment. E |

I'm glad to see more and more people are liking Scarsick as time goes on.
I like it a lot, and I felt like a real outsider amidst all the hate directed at the album. (I can see where the criticism comes from, but personally I don't have the same opinion, for the most part, as those who are very critical of the album) |

I was going to buy Scarsick just because. But it was too expensive.

Its up to you but my opinion can be summed up in two words (taken from the album itself) "Let's Disco!"

I have a feeling that years from now many people's opinion of this album will have changed. I personally love it and find every track appealling. Maybe it's not a step forward, but it's definetly not a step backwards. It is certainly a step somewhere though. Buy it, and dont give up on it so easily.

Get this album, but if you want to start listening to PoS, start with One Hour by the Concrete Lake, The Perfect Element I, or Remedy Lane. Scarsick and BE are more difficult to listen (but they are GREAT albums too)

It's an OK album in itself, but quite a letdown as a Pain of Salvation release after their 5 great previous albums.
I really like Kingdom of Loss, and I think that Disco Queen is a daring and weird experiment, I would not call it a failure.
My problem that most of the songs are far too simple and predictable, and for that unnecesarly long. The sophicistated approach of their previous works is hardly present.
Some people say that previous POS albums are quite "boring" but this is really "cool". (not dedicated prog fans of course).
I hope that Daniel is not going to be a "Man of the Masses" and "another parential advisory bore",to conquer a new audience.
Overall, this album deserves to be given a try IMHO, but don't expect a masterpiece.

I am no expert on prog-metal and haven't heard any of PoS' previous material, but I have listened to this album and I must admit I'm quite surprised by it. "America" sounds like Kim Wilde's "Kids in America" and "Disco Queen" has the octaving riff beloved of so many 80s hits. Seems like quite a departure for a metal band!

It deserves few spins, if only for the reason that is, again, very controversional, unconventional and doesn't leave almost anybody cold. I like Daniel's way he expresses his emotions and anger and his lyrics here as well (I think he only bash american politics and attitudes, and with that I agree totally). Again the band's breaking the borders is effective and interesting imo.
