I want Pagan, Occult, Wiccan, Demonic, Satanic, Evil, Dark & Doomy tracks and albums 60-70's (pre-NWOBHM & Black Metal). I want every track ever recorded in that era flirting with the evil forces. Witches, Sacrifices & rituals, little devils, evil spirits, ghosts & goblins etc...

Sophisticated or dumb. By The Carpenters or Karlheinz Stockhausen. I'm not picky. Doesn't even matter if its meant to be moralistic.

My (first one also Mystic Fred's it seems) current  obsessions,

DR. Z: Three Parts to My Soul

Madman composer/progger  Igor Wakhévitch Hathor

Fantastic childrens album Wade Denning & Kay Lande: Halloween: Games, Songs and Stories

C.A Quintet Trip Thru Hell

Mort Garson Black Mass/Lucifer

Here's a top Ten rockin' occult tracks to kicks things off:

1  Stark Naked All of them Witches
 2  Horrific Child Frayeur
 3  Alessandro Alessandrini Devil's Nightmare
 4  Black Widow Conjuration
5  Archaïa Le Grand Secret (I don't speak french, but this has to be occult)
 6  Comus The Bite
 7  Beggars Opera Madame Doubtfire
 8
Os Mutantes Ave Lucifer
 9
Magma Troller Tanz
10
Poppy Family Where Evil Grows

This topic is atleast 75% prog, so I'll post it in the prog lounge. Help me out here! Evil%20Smile

I really like last year's Celtic Frost - Monotheist. Can't wait for Neal Morse - Sola Scriptura to be released - then I'll listen to them alternatingly.Evil%20Smile

I highly recommend you to listen to Venom's At War with Satan

20 minutes of 80s' "progressive satanic music"  by the pioneers of Black Metal !

For the 70s, you have also Lucifer's Friend albums...

Jacula's too obvious so how about the gothically inclined krautrock bands like Night Sun and Necronomicon?

edit: previous two posters should probably read the first post ;)

.Comus First Utterance.....that's a brilliant album, Rafaella, it seems to grow on you the more you hear it, some very beautiful music which has sinister undertones. I remember we had a thread on sinister "occult" music  (something of a pet interest of mine) some time ago, and some surprisingly good albums came up - well they say the Devil has the best  tunes!Wink

also check out "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown"

also Ozzy's "Bark at the Moon" has some interesting moments..... Wink

First Utterance might just be the ultimate one. Check out Dr. Z. Similar heavy prog-folk. With hard hitting harpsichord riffs.

I do love the dark and funny Tardo Pede In Magiam Versus from '72.

But how bout that first Jacula album?  Supposedly recorded in '69! Is it for real? The guitar sounds a lot more like '89 to me.

Interesting, I haven't heard Night Sun. The suicidal, krauty blues of Necronomicon fits perfectly.

And yep. Im mainly looking for older stuff. But I'll probably re-listen to Celtic Frost (edit: wait, last year? That's just to new) and  Venom anyway.

Do I have to come up with all the examples myself? I don't wanna talk about who's the most progressive of Venom or Mozart.

This one's very disturbing/disturbed. First track La Faulx is as evil as music gets:

Find a fly and eat his eye

Sorry, I did not want to say that Venom was progressive. They are not much...

But their song "At War with Satan" is an unique and terrific 20 minutes black metal track with changes of rythm and melodies in it !

Surprising from this band.

Is it "progressive metal" ? ...

Nonetheless, well worth the listen !

Maybe early Black Sabbath (first eponymous album) is supposed to be kind of occultism, but I don't understand much the lyrics. But I'm sure it's a damn good terrific album!

If you want Black Metal I have a lot of bands to list!

I do have an issue with Paganism and Wicca being metioned alongside Demonic and Satanism........  Pagans do not believe that a being called Satan even exists.....  Paganism and Wicca are life-affirming paths, not dark or demonic in the least.

*Stepping off my soapbox*

For satanic: Black Sabbath's first album is practically nothing but a study in Lucifer... Wink

"Pagan" and "Wiccan" should not be thrown together with "Demonic", "Satanic" and "Evil". There is nothing dark or evil about them, only for a hardcore Christian.

Les Cycles du Thanatos by Vortex on the album with the same name is very dark. Reminds me a lot of Univers Zéro. Art Zoyd have made some very evil sounding music aswell. There is Brigades Spéciales on Symphonie pour le Jour où Brûleront les Cités, aswell as Musique pour l'Odyssée and Bruit, Silence - Bruit Repos on Musique pour l'Odyssée (there is much more by AZ, but not from the 70's).

^Edit: For the two of you over Phileas. I'm defenatly no hardcore christian, and I'm not a high-priestess of a Gaia worshipping religion either.

I know very well these terms are not the same. Being interested in all of  these things I have thrown together, is however quite common. Its a long way from Third Ear Band to Danzig, and I'm interested in everything inbetween. I'm not necessarely saying Occultism or even Satanism has to be dark or evil at all, but most musicians into it seems to think so. I'll admit I'm after the childish dark stuff, as much as your lifeaffirming pagan paths. I look for both. If you think its stupid or an insult to your beliefs, just stay away from this thread. This is not about beliefs.

The music of Comus examplifies quite well how these forces and interests go together. This is meant to be a superficial thread, about collecting musicinfo and tracks that shares some kind of otherness. I'm a unmystical guy who wants mystical music of all flavours or whatever!
