Topic: National Health or Hatfield and the North Posted: February 16 2007 at 17:41 |
Two bands from the Canterbury Scene, which do you prefer?
I tend to like National Health better

Hatfield and the North might be my favorite Canterbury act so my vote goes to them.

I haven't heard enough to judge but I don't like how you grouped it with not liking either so I refuse to vote for some reason. And I won't be hypocritical and vote. I simply am exercising my right to invade a poll and make no contribution at all!

I voted for National Health because they sound more gooder.

I like them equally, and little wonder it is. the only difference between them is the bass player (and singer, but the singing was never the most important part for me with either of the bands, though some of the lyrics are quite enjoyable and silly)

I adore both of them! I can't decide whether I should vote for Hatfield or NH, actually I like them equally. They created timeless and unique music that doesn't deserve to be overlooked and neglected. By the way, I highly recommend other Dave Stewart related bands, particulary Egg and Bruford. to you guys!

NH's second, 'Of Queues and Cures', is also cut above and one of the best of the Canterbury offerings. The Hatfields were definitive Canterbury-- prefer Rotter's Club but first album good too.

I would even go one step further and add that it's one of the very best classic prog albums, every inch as enjoyable and original as CLOSE TO THE EDGE, A PASSION PLAY, OCTOPUS or SELLING ENGLAND!
