Two bands from the Canterbury Scene, which do you prefer?

I tend to like National Health better

Okay I'll bite. Once I am done drolling over the new Rush release. I refuse to buy anything else until then. And I will never stop listening to Rush! Never! At least one album every day!

Which one should I pick up for a good starter album?

I can laugh.. I used to be just like you..  now I hardly touch them...

I've seen polls about evenly split... take your AR team leaders.. Raff loves Rotters Club and I love the S/T debut.  Can't go wrong with either. 

so when are you moving to Canada anyway

I like them equally, and little wonder it is. the only difference between them is the bass player (and singer, but the singing was never the most important part for me with either of the bands, though some of the lyrics are quite enjoyable and silly)

Yes, I am living proof of that....  Says one who listens to Dee-Lite, Barbra Streisand and other such musical delights!

Back IT, I love both bands, but if I have to choose, then my vote would go to the Hatfields because of the presence of Richard Sinclair. He's one of my all-time favourite singers, and his voice often gives me goosebumps. In my opinion, National Health are a bit harder to get into - however, their debut album features another big favourite of mine, the dazzling "Tenemos Roads".

I totally agree. I would even go one step further and add that it's one of the very best classic prog albums, every inch as enjoyable and original as CLOSE TO THE EDGE, A PASSION PLAY, OCTOPUS or SELLING ENGLAND!
