Wouldn't anyone always wish a song was better composed. I mean if a
song could be better, why wouldn't you want it to be?

No, there's a lot of good composers in prog metal.
I've heard just as many bad songs ffrom prog metal as I have from any other genre.

Of course, but you can find flaws in every genre, not just prog-metal....

It depends...when I listen to Adagio (which I dont do really, as I gave the album away to a friend...who didnt liked it too heheh) I say "ok, now this is a good example of how virtuosism just doesnt make a song work on its own"...man is Adagio badly composed on the other hand bands like Pain of Salvation, Beyond Twilight and specially Opeth surprise me when it comes to compositions

I agree, infact I see alot more flaws in other genres, let's not mention any names though.

I wonder how often you listened to it ... it took at least 5 times for me to appreciate it.

At least 5 times too, but I never could hear the whole album at once...I really did not like Adagio, there was nothing new to it, normally, more than in any other prog genre, what I look for in prog metal is innovation...Adagio had none and then some
