I had the albums back in the 80's, but have recently picked up the two discs by the Rodgers/Page/Slade/Franklin band The Firm. Although Franklin's slippery fretless work makes me feel as if I'm on some sort of acid trip, it's really nice revisiting these two old friends again. Mean Business was by far the superior of the two (IMO) and think that "Live In Peace" has a lot of progressiveness to it.

Anyway, talking with a buddy of mine who also recently picked these up, we're wondering why they never lasted beyond the second album? Was it due to lack of sales, egos, the ever-popular creative differences excuse, ect.? Anyone have any insight?

I saw a concert, and my conclusion was... thank god they never kept THe Firm! We wouldn't have had Outrider, CoverdalePage, No Quarter, Clarksdale... IMO The Firm had no creative perspective, but it may be my taste that's got something wrong...
