Topic: Favorite Hawkwind Studio Album? Posted: March 10 2007 at 05:11 |
'Warrior on the edge of time' gets my vote. It has great moments, notably, 'Assault & battery/Golden Void' 'Magno' 'The Demented Man' and 'Spiral Galaxy' It's among the best produced Hawkwind albums too, with excellent performances from Simon House. It wouldn't be Hawkwind without all the sh!t bits though. I realise that Mike Moorcocks poetry is wholly relevant to the albums 'theme' but it sounds awful IMO. As do the songs 'Kings of Speed' and 'Motorhead' For a long time I actually preffered the Calvert albums. Astounding sounds is a strong album. I love 'Steppenwolf' and 'Reefer Madness' PXR5 & 'Quark' also have some classic songs. They are marred by Hawkwinds characteristic inconsistency, but I think Calvert pulled the band admirably through the punk/new wave era. I dont think this view was shared by many Hawkfans at the time.

I only have Warrior, I thought it sounded quite punk, I do know they were one of the few prog bands that remained prog and yet were still trendy during the dark ages

Glad too see someone else agrees with me about the incredibly underrated Quark, Strangeness and Charm. They certainly have released many great ones though!

I only own two; Space and Warrior - I have to vote 'Warrior on the Edge of Time'. I have the vinyl with the fold out cover, almost as much fun to look at as play.

If you mean the Sonic Attack album, it's not as good as Levitation but is among the better of their 80s output.
I was going to vote for Warrior but the spoken parts are annoying me at the moment so I've voted for Doremi instead.

Basically, Robert Calvert reads a poem by Michael Moorcock about what would happen (to the human race) and how to avoid harm in 'In The Event of Sonic Attack...' I loved it the first time that I heard it ...30 odd years ago...

Warrior on the Edge of Time!
Needless to say, their best release overall was the incredibly, mind-blowing SPACE RITUAL!
