Okay, I understand that this has been brought up several times over the years (I may be new as a member, but I've been coming to this site for about three years, its how I found prog), but Coheed and Cambria are definitely some form of Progressive Music, most preferably Prog Metal.
Let me fill you in on how they meet the definition of Prog Metal:

  • complex compositional structures (check - Willing Well II: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness
  • odd time signatures (check -  In Keeping Secrets Silent Earth the song)
  • intricate instrumental playing (check - The Willing Well songs and Velorium Camper Songs, not to mention The Crowing and Delerium Trigger)
  • concept albums (check - that's what Co&Ca is all about! telling the story of the Amory wars! Very intricate, Sanchez does a great job with the lyrics correlating with the story)

Anyway, if this isn't enough, then just listen to it on Project Playlist, or if you're dedicated, go to Best Buy or something and pick up a copy of "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness."
I mean, if lame sh*t like The Doors is gonna be called prog, you've got to give it to Coheed for rocking it out, at least in prog related. Anybody with me on this?

I feel they are very close- yes. There are a TON of bands that seem to lie in that grey area- where opinion's turn to arguments. I could see this band being considered prog- yes.
I have 3 of their albums by the wayTongue

There is another active thread on exactly the same subject, which should have been easy to see if you had bothered to look in this section:

Anyway, for the future I'd recommend you refrain from using words such as "lame s**t* to refer to bands you don't like. There are many ways to make your displeasure known without insulting either the musicians or their output.
