Seeing as Regatta DeBlanc is the only album I have

i think ghost has some of the deepest songs on it. invisible sun and secret journey are some of their best. IMO

crap... I didn't see Mike's question... thanks James... that is exactly what I meant. It has nothing to do with the music.. but as we know...  it isn't always about the music.

As for Sting's perceived 'preachiness', he is somewhat infamous in the press AFAIK for having a self important and righteous image- Micky is right with the comparison to Bono as they are both perceived to have the same personality/image. I don't think that is really reflected in the music though. 

I would say that the best solo Sting is Nothing Like The Sun. Also, The Soul Cages is pretty good, too. I have them all except for that latest of his. He really wussed out, and I only hope that his reunion with The Police lights a fire in him.

Sidenote: I actually met Sting during The Soul Cages tour here in Kansas City. We caught wind that he was with his band (and opener Concrete Blonde) down at this restaurant in the city. Luckily the people who called us from the restaurant had a table right next to theirs. The person with whom I really wanted to meet, however, was drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. He was devouring a platter of raw oysters, so as nervous as I was, I tapped him on the shoulder and told him that I really wanted to shake his hand and that I have more discs with him on it than Sting. He stopped what he was doing, stood up, shook my hand and said, "Thank you. You have no idea how much that means to me."

We didn't say anything to Sting until the later part of the night as he got up and walked right by us. We shook his hand and complimented him on a great show (and it was) and he was very gracious. I think guys like him appreciate not being smothered and approaching them with respect. He was nothing but friendly to us.

Reggata was friggin awesome.  Great guitar, bass and drums.  Great songs, great everything before the work become tiring.  I mean I like Ghost in the Machine, Zenyatta, and Synchronicity, but they just aren't nearly as well written.  Synchronicity's best song wasn't even on the album originally (Murder by Numbers). 

Sting's solo albums are ok, but they begin to run together.  Although the Songs from the Labrynth was pretty good I though, but he didn't write those songs, and he barely played lute on it as it was sort of advertised that he did it all.

Raff and I just talked about that.... think it might be more personal than music.  The 'preachy' types tend to rub people wrong.  Bono is another one who tends to be the same way...

for solo album...again... Dream of the Blue Turtles.. a fabulous album

between the two.. going for Zenyatta Mondatta to get it on the board hahah
