a page late but never a dollar short.. so my contribution to my thoughts on Battiato...

for you David Heart and others interested in him...  the samples here don't say much. One of my projects...an original and fitting bio for him...and more samples.  His music is SO VERY diverse.

from Fetus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=780iDvd9zlw

from Pollution - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rJpMGCiKEI

a single released between Fetus and Pollution - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEn6wnneJl4

from Sulle Corde di Aries - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IeOo8XR8mI

and from Clic - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhlatZZizW4

and from the incredible late 80's live album... my favorite Battiato song.. it lacks the studio versions INCREDIBLE intoxicating and hypnotic calimba section.. but still.. you get a gist of the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zqCn2JZ8lU

as a side note... found this group when Youtubing him.....  wow...

I just wanted to share something that happened today.  I work at a hospital and I was talking with one of my patients who told me his parents imigrated from Italy.  He's a very nice 78 year old gentleman.

I told him I loved all things Italian and asked him if he'd like to hear some modern Italian music.  He said he would love that.

I brought him my Ipod and put on Bacio della Medusa, the new one about Dante's Inferno.  He loved it, listened to it in it's entirely and when he finished asked how he could get a copy so he could have it and send one to his brother in Italy,

He has absolutely no idea how obscure it is.Wink

Clap you picked the perfect one to show him.  Their music, especially the newer album, has a timeless quality that can appeal to modern hard rock fans, progressive fans, and even traditional Italian lovers.

Well, if that guy loved all things Italian, next time you could bring me to himLOL... Hopefully I'll be in the USA next month, in time to cook some nice turkey and pumpkin pieWink!

As regards new Italian releases, I am quite sure there are more than a few around. Despite the myriad problems Italy is experiencing now, the musical scene is extremely vibrant. An excellent resource, if you happen to understand some Italian, is www.movimentiprog.net, a very thorough site that is a must for anyone interested in the modern Italian prog scene. Mind you, it's even more inclusive than PA, but its reviews are excellent, and the Events page a real treasure trove for anyone who lives in Italy.

I'm not the right guy to answer that one because I haven't been following the pipeline for much of the last year.  But I will recommend a band called Coral Caves - they have an album out this year that you may want to check out...clips on myspace to give you an idea.  The movimenti site that Raf linked is a good place to check; even if you don't know the language you can cross-reference stuff you see there.

Thanks Raff and Jimmy,  I've been meaning to check out Coral Caves and will check out the link as well, even though I don't speak Italian.

Speaking of which, anyone know where I can get an English translation of BDM's latest so I can follow the Inferno concept?

                                                                       Thanks, Kenmar

You should really check out Akt (filed under Eclectic) as well. Their album is (at least it was) free to download from their website, and it's a great one too. Although they have a more modern approach, with some electronic tendencies, it's definitely worth the time downloading Wink

Read the reviews if you're interested.

I have this collection - the CD isn't fantastic, but in my opinion, the book is definitely worth the price of the package. It pretty much covers everything, and the pictures are fantastic.

I saw that and found the book 'The Return of Italian Pop'.. was cheaper.. and MUCH more informative so I got it instead.  If anyone gets a chance to get that book..  get it.  That book had nice pictures   but was thin on info..nothing the Bible doesn't cover.
