Has anyone else heard of this band?
They are a duo, just drums and bass, but really good. I'm thinking that maybe they could fit in with RIO/Avant-prog alongside bands like Hella You can hear the songs on their EP at their myspace http://www.myspace.com/clevis or at the official site (click on the media button) http://www.clevisband.com/ |

RIO/Avant would be a safe bet.
Sounds like a full band |

I'll add them to our chart (but be aware that it might take some time...).
Thanks

Brilliant stuff! If you listen to Crocodilian just casually, it's hard to believe this is only bass and drums. I've always known that bass guitar should be a lead instrument
RIO/Avant should fit just fine - make this work Avestin! |

I have their EP subliminal and think it's great. Only 14 minutes, but they pack an awful lot of music into a small space (also it costs $3 on Amazon so there's no excuse for not buying it...).
I suppose they would have to fit in the RIO/avant bag, but I find them quite melodic and accessible - much more so than Ruins for instance.
EDIT: You might also try out Martini Henry who are on the same label, as is records. A completely different style of music (semi-acoustic indie / jazz / prog casserole with brilliant guitar work and rather tortured vocals). They have samples here:

First of all let me say again, that this needs approval of the other ZART members and not just me. Now, I find this to be to my taste, I like it.
I find this also to be on one of the RIO/Avant frontiers with other genres/domains and this time, the Art-Rock domain. But! They do fall more into our territory, and for the time being I told my team mates in our thread in the collab zone to check this band out and give their thoughts.
For now, I say, they should be in PA, just not sure if in ZAR or AR. (probably ZAR).
For others to have some background info on these guys here's their short bio from their label:
"
"Clevis is a band stripped of all filigree. It is an orchestra without winds or strings, a jazz band minus a brass section, and a rock group sans the singer. At the core of every musical group is the rhythm section.
With just a drum-set and bass guitar, Clevis weaves through a song like a motorcycle in heavy traffic. Time signatures shift without notice, melodies stop and begin, and tempos swerve. The music accelerates and then changes direction. Clevis sounds like a bigger ensemble than it is" -WMUC "Really intricate pieces with lots of atmosphere and also groove" -WBAR "

Okay I contacted the band to see if I can get a bio. Hopefully you don't mind, avestin.

Mind?
On the contrary, I do it myself all the time and in the collab zone I encourage this sort of connection with bands.
Thanks for your help! It can sure spped up things.
Now only waiting for other ZART members to vote as well. Mine will be a Yes vote.

hmmm... I'm finding this quite tricky. I listened through the samples a while ago; at the time my opinion was touching towards the Art rock side of the equation. I will listen to the tracks again soon [to give a definite opinion].
