Is there a hidden reference to Hectic Watermelon's "Sacred Watershed" in your sig, Jim? That is, when the snow starts melting of course...

Rarely have I read so much bullshed in one thread; this is supposed to be a 'welcome to the pantheon of the PA gods-type thread' & what happens...?

Shed envy!

Yes, Tony, as I suggested to our Jim in a PM, I'm only afraid that he WON't be able to be "mad' any more. With all due respect (that's a LOT!) I remember great forum guys like yourself and Bob simply being (and presumably having) a lot more fun, before you took on the responsibility of moderation.

Forum fun and a welcome relief from real-life stress & responsibilities becomes a job, with relentless exposure to the negative (through "report" PMs) and actively searching for abuse/rule breaking. (Ever meet a jaded, cynical cop? How about a  peevish HS teacher?)

One also has to "set a good example." Ermm

(mixed feelings -- sigh)

This is the one thing I have had to consider deeply since Bob approached me initially; would I be able to retain my forum 'personality' whilst attending to any duties required...? In short, I hope so - I like to think I have a well developed sense of humour and a relatively thick skin, both of which I hope to be able to continue to utilise, both with the admin hat on, and without.

I know I have friends here, and I know the admin team will support me whilst I find my feet - in addition to this site, which as I've said, means a great deal to me, I also have a 'life' (outside of the Archive???) which means the world to me...

Balance is all - moderation in all things (excuse the pun).

Now all I need to do is utilise Google-Earth to check out the membership/shed ratio, and I'm up & running.

J
Well, as with so many things in life, Jim, you'll never know if it's for you until you try it, so jump in and give it a good go, is my advice.

Just know that if it's not for you in the end, there's no shame in admitting that, and that I'll always save you a seat here in the "audience"/peanut gallery.Stern%20Smile

Good luck with it -- I hope you find it rewarding!
*********************************************************************************************

BTW, Jimberly, Did you know that Peter Gabriel is a dedicated shed man too?  Consider these lines from Sledgehammer:

I've kicked the habit
Shed my skin
This is the new stuff
I go dancing in, we go dancing in

Now there's a man who enjoys his shed -- why, he goes positively "dancing in(to)" it!

Then there's this more oblique reference, in Watcher of the Skies:

Maybe the lizard's shed its tail,
This is the end of man's long union with earth.

Even lizards have sheds in England, it would seem! Thumbs%20Up (Thus, if you DON'T have one, you're worse than a lizard.)

The second line seems to reflect how once a man goes into his shed, it can be bloody hard for the wife to extract him, even to consummate their "union" (here woman is "earth"/Gaia -- a common motif in shed mythology and lore). Geek

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

Way to go, jimClap
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

May the higher mantle make the man.
Congratulations Jim.
