It looks like Romania's lately no longer such a no feature in good or radical bands coming, performing, enlightning. Sibiu is, mind that, the European Cultural City in 2007, but overall, it isn't just that. Good festivals and such meet expectations every year, but lately it circles around big names too. And, outside that, there are more special things happening.

So, on the sum of several great names visiting and performing this year in mee sweet country (Embarrassed), I figured to make it a topic in here.

For what I know, 2007 is the year:

  • The Rolling Stones will come 'n' play (July)
  • Robert Plant will honor a concert (I was actually surprised by this news)
On the jazz side, which I prefer (cause 200 years old Rolling Stones coming leaves me cold anyway Wink), we've got upcoming two festivals,  with big names, and beautiful images. Sibiu Jazz Festival 2007 is inviting some like Didier Lockwood, Herbie Kopf, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Archie Shepp. But my biggest name is Jan Garbarek, acompanied by Manu Katche (you should know some of his pinpoints on Pete Gabriel studio or lives, no? Wink) and Eberhard Weber (who comes the second time for me, I already saw him in December). And I'm just dying to get there. TongueTongue

Any news on other great artists attending Romania this year are welcomed. Even more natural, any romanian here who knows something like this (andu, cristi etc.) can place it here. WinkTongue

Oh Mr. Special Collaborator, are you doing shameless country-self-promotion? LOL Well I must say my vanity is satisfied. Tongue

I am definitely going to see Robert Plant, I love the guy Heart . I like his solo career very much, both the early one and the late one. And from what I know, they always play some Zeppelin. Big%20smile So I'm barely waiting for the tickets to become available.
The Stones have sold out already, If I'm not wrong. Actually the site where one could buy tickets had so much traffic in the first hours after the tickets were available, that the server crashed. LOL
I am also planning to go to the Garana Jazz festival, where Garbarek is coming. You forgot Billy Cobham! Unfortunately information is scarce on this year's edition, the official site is still not updated since the 2006 edition. I hope to find some people to go there with. Anyone in for a ride to the misty mountain hop?

Billy Cobham is coming to Gărâna? That should be fantastic. If any of you knows when the festival takes place, please let me know, cause I hope to be home this summer and I wouldn't want to miss this chance to see him live.

Garana among July's second week. At least Garbarek is in 13th July.

You'll call me crazy, I know Garana's impossible to visit as to sleep in a house or thanks to guests, but I hate the idea of sleeping in tents. So, if I can't improvise, I don't know how I'll sort things out.
 
Otherwise, my first Garana experience should be one desperately desired. And magnificent.

I got the reply from the festival producers: "Very soon you will find all the details on the new site." Can't wait...
I already hooked a friend of mine to come with me at the festival. Also my best friend from Timisoara will join, probably with some of his friends.
