Why not indeed?
I wouldn't object to either , probably as prog-related.

Jokes aside, many non-prog artists have made 5 to 10 prog songs in their entire career, so they could be considered prog-related with this argument. So I think it would be better to present as an argument the fact that the band made one or two prog albums or one prog and another half-prog, meaning that the band during a short period of time was aimed in doing something progressive but for several reason they did not stick in the prog genre, moving to some other kind of music. |

Calling SFA Prog is really quite a large strecht in my opinion. I can't see how they ended up here... |

Those three should be added, as well as Tom Jones, Sassafras, Bryn Terfel, Daffyd Iwan and the Proggeist of them all Goldie Looking Chain and Katherine Jenkins Seriously: I have suggested Budgie in the past, they could qualify in PA as Prog Releted, great band and my personal favourite "Breadfan" as changes throughout the song. Mind you there a few Welsh Prog bands here: Man, Super Furry Animals, Bluehorses etc etc. |

Parents, Napoleon Bona-Parts 1 & 2, Breaking All The House Rules, Nude disintegrating parachutist woman, In The Grip Of A Tyrefitter's Hand... they should be considered at least prog related.

For what I've heard till today not prog, neither prog related, though
some few songs are proggish, like Cat Stevens, Bee Gees, Elton John,
David Bowie, Velvet Underground, Spooky Tooth, Tommy James and the
Shondells, Beach Boys, Ten Years After, etc, etc, etc....

Well, I'd say the scope here is broad enough to include Budgie...if Zep is here, why not?

They explicitly said on the text on their LPs that they were NOT Prog Rock - but then, Robert Fripp hated the association too, so yes - easily as Prog-Related as, say, Wishbone Ash - Budgie were more than just a hard rock band - and this disco-flavoured link shows their versatility and ability to branch out beyond the stereotyped image of the power trio. Note the date of the performance |

No, but definitely Prog Related if Blue Öyster Cult are. Budgie made more Prog than BÖC, in my opinion.
So were BÖC, Deep Purple, Rainbow and Led Zeppelin. Edited by Philéas - April 22 2007 at 15:17 |

I love Budgie, Never turn your back on a Friend and In for the Kill are their best I think.
But why redefine their genre, they were and are pure hardrock.
By the way: they made a new one: You're all living in Cuckooland. And it is pleasant enough.
