Anyone like/heard of the band Dead Can Dance?
They are a great band with stylistic influences from dark-wave, world music and neo-classical. I love their originality and Lisa Gerrard's lovely glossolalia voice. My favorite is Into the Labyrinth, followed close by Within the Realm of a Dying Sun and Serpent's Egg.

Great Stuff!
A couple of my fave tracks are the sentimental "The Carnival is Over" as well as "Fortune Presents Gifts Not According to the Book" -- the first song of theirs that got me into them.
 I have four of their CDs.
Are they listed here? To my ears, their inclusion would be easy to justify.

Cantara - excellent
Dream Pop is about as close as 80's Pop music ever got to being progreessive. Most the 1980's 4AD artists are worth checking out. (Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Colour Box, Lush, Modern English, Throwing Muses, This Mortal Coil, Xmal Deutschland, etc.)

I have all their cd's. My favs are 'Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun', 'The Serpent's Egg', 'Aion'. And some of Lisa Gerrard's solo stuff.

The 4AD bands were pretty good. That was a good era for British 'indie' music. The Cocteau Twins and Lush were among my favourites. I was Youtubing This Mortal Coil stuff recently, and it made me want to go out and buy load of their stuff. 'Song to the Siren' is a fantastic song! I have 'Aion' by DCD which is excellent, and also an eponymous album - probably their debut (?) - which is very 'Goth' I think Lisa Gerrard was involved in the sound track to 'Gladiator' was she not? |

I downloaded a track, labeled Porcupine Tree, named Dead Can Dance from Stupid Dream. I own Stupid Dream, and I know it wasn't from that album, so I can only assume the song is by the band Dead Can Dance, but I have no idea what song or from what album it is. I very much enjoy it, it sounds almost celtic and extremely psychedelic. It has harp (or something of the like) throughout the song and a very delicate woman's voice on top, and that is all. It's about 3:50.
Anyone know what song it is? |

haha i 'grew up' listening to them. when yr an adolescent this sh*t is waaay out there and mindblowing to you...........seems many of us have the same favs (Within The Realm, Aion, Serpent's Egg) but their first 2 more goth-like albums are seriously great too................

I have "Into the Labyrinth" which I really adore. Lisa Gerrard is indeed a Goddess!!
To answer the question about the soundtrack to 'The Gladiator' - yes, that was indeed Lisa Gerrard. She has such an amazing voice and her vocals have been sampled by many bands, notably by "Delerium" (Canada). Ageless music and I highly recommend DCD to the curious amongst us!

DCD has on the list of approved groups: the medieval influences and later the ethnic influences are grounds (but that's not the only reason) enough for prog folk!
