What I thought the White Stripes should sing according to the poster:

 Ha! Funny!
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

I liked the album, really  (although not for too long)

Maybe their Garage-rock thing is one big rip-off, but it rocks! And the artwork for the album is beautiful!

I still prefer prog, though.

Good album, one of the few modern 'non-prog' albums I can listen to.

Hey, I said my kids like it. I taught 'em what I know, so it can't be all that bad. I've kind of seperated myself from mainstream music lately. There is a saying taught to me by my loving brother/Mentor:

Same Old  , Different Day (SOS DD)

Didn't Saint Peter Rideout say something like, every song has already been written. We are just listening to interpretations of the same songs. I tend to agree, to a point. There are a few people attempting to do something different. It's hard to find and most people can get their minds around it. The search continues........

By some uncanny coincidence my computer has just randomly selected a White Stripes track (Black Math) at the very instance I opened this thread. Spooky...

I know, they're not very original, but their songs rock! (and I like it when I turn on the TV and I don't see Britney or Justin, but Jack an Meg!)

They sound like a sixties band. They're not original, I just like it

well, sure the white stripes are repetitive, but repetitive lyrics and simple drum beats are what started rock n' roll, right? if it wasn't for that type of music there wouldn't be any prog bands at all.

I agree they're not original, but they rock!

Quite like them myself & Jack has proved himself a more than adequate actor too in 'Cold Mountain'.

I bought it when it came out, but it lost it's appeal within weeks. There isn't really anything there to hold the listeners attention IMO. The music is about as basic as it gets, and to be honest I think TWS are more of a 'gimmick' band than anything else. They take the whole ethos of 'Keepin' it real' and 'back to basics' to extremes.

That approach doesn't really appeal to me at all.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I like some of the songs by the White Stripes, but unfortunately most of them are played only with guitar and drums, without bass!! This minimalistic approach spoils the songs for me. They would sound much better with a pair of additional musicians playing them.

I agree, although Elephant held my attention for a bit more than a couple of weeks. I liked the way they went back and used 60's equipment to record this album. Great bisnuiss sense, spend £3k, make £3million.

Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005
