Just curious, what genre(s) do you think they fall into? |

i had the "Abigail's Ghost" cd delivered to day - excellent music, very influenced by Porcupine Tree, some very good melodic/metallic moments, good songs, and a very strong contender for admission! when i get time i'll send some tracks up to the relevant genre team and see what they think....

^ ideally the genre team need four or five tracks from each album, full biography and personnel list to make a submission inclusion - as you already have the cd's it would help to send them up. check band addition procedure -
"The following criterion needs to be submitted with each request:
BAND INFORMATION A short paragraph with your reasons why this band should be added Artist/band biography (usually found on their web site) Country Prog genre (This may be subject to change by PA staff) Artist picture Official Website Discography (In a List style not in a Paragraph, Include line up and Year of release) A group (5) of MP3 that give the best overview of bands sound in 128 bit stereo,mp3 Each Bio, Info, Pictures and Web Address: Send the information an email with the bands name as the title. MP3’s: The songs file name must be = File name: [Band] - [Album] - [track number] - [title].mp3 Example: ELP_Trilogy_01_The Endless Enigma.mp3 Zip them up! Email: [email protected] (Do not email anything but band submissions to this address. All other mail will be deleted) Once the emails are sent we have a team who will read the Emails. If the request does not include the full criteria we have asked for the email staff will send an email back to the requestor asking for the missing elements. The requestor will then have two weeks to respond. If they do not then the submission will be deleted with no further communication. " |

mystic fred, The more I listen to Abigail's Ghost the more convinced I am that they belong in PA. Their MySpace page states that they're "Art Rock". They remind me of Porcupine Tree. So, it could be difficult to categorize them. |

Hey Snow Dog, If you'd like I can create the threads for each unsigned band and place them in that forum section. I can get bio's and such for each. Sorry I didn't look in that section first. But, after all, I am a "newbie". Take Care |

Thank you very much, I appreciate that. Ok all the unsigned bands I will create threads for in the "Unsigned Bands " section.
But not just yet.

Thanks, Check out the Model A website, they have a decent video of a live song. Looks like they use a pretty elaborate lighting system for their shows. They also have a new CD coming out soon. I'm not sure if they're "psychedelic" or not. They definitely have some psychedelic passages, but then can get a little heavy at times. I like the ride they take you on though. Take Care |

Hey there mystic fred,
Yeh, Abigail's Ghost is decent. The band links I posted have at least 3-4 full length songs of each group. That should be enough don't ya think? |

Hi Snow Dog,
I edited my thread and added hyperlinks and whether the bands have labels or not. Hope that helps. |

Moris, there are several album entries on the PA acknowledged as "Self produced". What I don't remember i whether those bands had other, "normal" albums, or the demos were their only entries.

Hmm...I'm moving far from the topic here, but...let's say that a CD (or vinyl or whatever) must be published under a label that is registered company, that is, have some catalogue number and a bar code for a product, as a minimum requirement...is that making sense? |

Of the 14 bands listed 7 of them have record companies - i could check these out for the time being and pass up to relevant teams, but is slightly difficult judging from just one track.
the "Abigail's Ghost" one sounded really good!

Well I suppose it would depend on the availability of the Cd. If no one could buy it, then it couldn't be included.....could it?

Ok, cheers. It's just that, in these days of modern technology, CD burners and what have you, it's not that hard to record and release your own CD. I could knock one out tonight (sorry, I'll rephrase that), I could record and release my own CD tonight but that doesn't make me "signed".

My guess is, if they have product that can be shown in the database and reviewed, then they can be classed as "Signed".
But I don't make the rules. I'll arsk!

Quick question Ian - if a band start up their own label and issue their own CDs, are they an unsigned band?

I'm not much into the classification realm of things. Most of the bands probably fall into the "prog" areas somewhere, just not sure where. I'll let the experts decide.
