Topic: Your favorite band of them all: prog or not... Posted: June 17 2007 at 21:31 |
I'd like to see how many of us have our absolute favorite band a prog band... In my case it's true.... DREAM THEATER..... And my top 10 bands are prog.... The Doors and Iron Maiden (both listed here but not 100% prog) are the only ones that sneak their way into my top-list....
Please also mention the band....

I don't think I have an absolute favorite band, but all the bands that could contend for the title are prog bands.

My favorites are Porcupine Tree (prog) and A Perfect Circle (not prog). And I don't like choosing one or the other, so I won't vote.

.....and I thought I had a pretty rigid definition of prog!
I think that Radiohead, Queen , and The Doors don't belong here, but DT? They are clearly prog by my definition.
As far as an answer to the poll, I have no clear favorite, but whoever it is, they are listed on this site, since thats pretty much all I listen too!

Prog: Van der Graaf Generator Non-prog: Gov't Mule, Kronos Quartet and Invert. Infact, anything chamber rock is fine by me!

Although Pink Floyd is a close number two, I'm going to have to go with Pearl Jam as my favorite :(

Yes. They are absolutely prog, despite previous posts.
Why, it's Radiohead. Of course!

Prog. Either Opeth or PT, depending on my mood, but I listen to a lot of other stuff too. They're just the top by a little bit.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor... not exactly "prog", but most certainly progressive, and definitely listed on this site!

If I had to choose any band... well it would have be UFO with the amazing Michael Schenker on guitar.
My favorite prog. band right now is Porcupine Tree.

Moonsorrow aren't listed, but i asked about them in the 'suggest a
band' section and by the looks of it they may end up here. It's a toss
up between them and Opeth who are definately prog.
Most of my other favourites (TMV, Pain of Salvation, PT, Anathema,
Jethro Tull, Isis, Agalloch, The Tangent and my new addition:
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum) are here. The ones that i really like that
aren't listed here are: Korpiklaani, Sonata Arctica and Bathory.

My all time favorite band is 70-77 Genesis because symphonic prog is my favorite genre. But I also love to play records from Rory Gallagher, Paco De Lucia, The Doors, early Queen, Santana and 74-77 Tangerine Dream.
