Topic: Estradasphere vs Mr. Bungle Posted: July 02 2007 at 15:57 |
I'm going out on a limb here, as I'm sure Mr. Bungle is much more known
than Estradasphere, but I t hought I'd give it a shot. Though it
is close, I'd have to say, as of now, Estradasphere just does so much
more for me.
Thoughts?

I'm disappointed - neither of these players are avant-garde! Al di Meola.
haha i know. but the poll itself is avant-garde
Oh man tough poll. I love both bands a lot. I first started with Mr. Bungle and they made a huge impact on me. Because i listened to Mr. Bungle i ended up listening to Estradasphere. But i went with Mr. Bungle. Both excellent bands

I'm voting for Mr. Bungle and in this case, it wasn't a hard choice - Estradasphere (and the whole family tree) really irritate me by being eclectic enough to play genres of music I can't stand, and I prefer grotesque to zany.

While Estradasphere clearly gets a lot of their inspiration from Bungle, I must say that the overall quality of their music is way higher than Mr. B's. Sure, Mr. Bungle have one of the most beautiful songs, ever, in Retrovertigo, the thrashterpiece Carry Stress in the Jaw, and a bunch of other memorable songs. But, Estradasphere has the godlike epic that is Hunger Strike, a lot of very cool video game theme covers, and ultimately, their masterwork; Palace of Mirrors, one of the best albums I've ever heard.
So, my vote goes to E.

It seems that my predictions are true. Patton's aura is going to be too much for Estradasphere.

I like Mr. Bungle a bit more, but they're both great.

Estradasphere wins it for me hands down. But that's maybe because I discovered it only recently, and it clicked with me immediately, while I clearly remember a lot of things irritating me in Mr. Bungle's opuses.

Mr. Bungle. Without them (and Spruance) Estradasphere wouldn't be where they are. Love both though
