That's about all I can think of when it comes to Iceland.  Vote and yell at me for omitting anything.

My vote goes to Sigur Ros.  Simply because I think it's purty.  Wouldn't call it prog, but y'all said it was, so pfffffft to you!  LOL

I second Sigur Ros. From that selection, there the best. So original and awesome, they are!

Only heard Sigur Ros, Nattura, Björk and Svanfridur. None of them are important to me.

? I don't hate any of them either, if that's what you mean.

BTW: Every time I tell you how I really feel,  lets say about some progmetal og neoprog band, its rarely popular.

How come all Icelandic bands (that I've heard, and granted I haven't heard many)  have those weird breathy vocals that go aaaaaaahOOOOoooooaaaAAAoooo etc. ?

Cool to stumble upon this thread and some interest in my country (thanx markosherrera for reviving it).    I´d say Sigur Rós for the time being.

Haha you know the old icelandic bands more than me really. I have yet to really dig into them. Most band here are to obscure for regular people.

There was a poll not so long ago in the biggest newspaper here on what is the best album in Iceland´s history, Sigur Rós came nr. 1. and Trúbrot nr. 2.
( see list here if interested: http://www.mbl.is/mm/folk/frett.html?nid=1301861 )

The drummer from Trúbrot played w. Syn (Yes predecessor) actually, but declined to continue w. the band or something... he could have been in Yes maybe. Then he went mad in the 90´s and released the most ridicolopus album in the history of Iceland (cheezy keyboards w. a drum machine, song titles like "my dog" "my coffee" "my car")

btw one correction.... it´s Thursaflokkur not Porsaflokkur , the letter Þ (Th) is commonly mistaken for P Wink

Although not that much prog.... this 90´s band should have made it big time abroad but never did: Jet Black Joe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7HwK_jwqmY

Some good releases this year here for those interested in hard RIO/avantgard rock this year, Benny Crespo´s Gang, Mugison, Ask the Slave. (just put their names after myspace.com/ if interested)

Nobody needs to go anywhere else. We are all, if we only knew it, already there.
