Although I think the 3 'transition' albums are all far underrated (I prefer them to the latest stuff) and Discipline is genius in it's own way, to me it comes down to the 'big 4' albums. The debut and the 3 heavy wetton era albums. But even though it was their first ever output, I still think nothing in 38 years since has quite reached the heights of the masterpiece that was In The Court Of The Crimson King. Larks' Tongues In Aspic and Red aren't too far behind though fighting for second (maybe Red just coz of Starless)

The Court is important, influential, incredible, in the beginning, in...

But Red is EMOTION. That is.Tongue

I think i've given 4 of their albums 5 stars."In The Court..."   Larks' Tongues.."   "Red" and "Power To Believe". But as i've said before there is something magical about their debut, and i think it's called mellotron.

Even though I rated Larks and ITCOTCK higher, Red is my eprsonal favorite. It is downright metallic and some of the scariest musi ever written

On most days, I would probably vote for ITCOTCK, but today I have to say Starless and Bible Black, which I think is highly underrated.

In The Court Of The Crimson King  has moonchild  and moonchild makes Yorkie mad Angry
If it wasn`t for Moonchild and somebody said  In The Court Of The Crimson King is the best prog album ever I`d probably agree but Moonchild brings it down , I see it as a damaging experiment that for most people doesn`t work. Red is another fine CD but that has one or two stinkers on it too that I can`t ignore.   So we get down to consistancy and while Larks' Tongues In Aspic isn`t nearly as strong it doesn`t seem to sink as low as the others  ... so what will it be for Yorkie ?     hmmmmmm      ... I dunno   Confused

In The Court Of The Crimson King has something really special that is missing from other studio albums.

Lizard, followed by The Power To Believe and In The Court Of The Crimson King.

'Larks' Tongues'  for me.  ITWoP gets second place... similar to the first ...but with no garbage like  Moonchild on it... and with the benefit of a wild little ditty like Cat Food in place of it hhhaha Clap

speaks highly for the quality of the other albums doesn't it... though one of life's great prog mysteries to me... along with the fanatical worship of Genesis here who made ONE great prog album start to finish IMO.... has to be the love of Red on this site.  Starless and One Red Nightmare are brilliant..the rest... aahhh.. not bad and nowhere NEAR the same league as LTiA for example. I guess I'll just be in the happy minority on those.
