I've been listening to this band for maybe about half a year and I find that they have a rather "Post-Rock" sound. Similar to Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Ros, and The Album Leaf. Hopefully they can surpass the acceptance for being on the Prog Archives.
Biography/Summary: The name and music are part of a series of contemplative reflections based on the world we live in, and exactly how we live in it. These expressions take the form of positive, negative, and neutral emotions depending on your viewpoint and the meaning conveyed in the music, whether it is love, sadness, thought, appreciation, rejection, etc.. Meaning is personally and individually creative, a large factor which makes us human. The best parallel that can be drawn about the name is the Pink Floyd track "Money". Roger Waters once stated that some people come away from the song wanting their own jet plane, but in this case they'd completely missed the point of the song. Much the same are those who misunderstand the usage of the name as if it's an absolute endorsement of the idea of the American Dollar or American power or any other ideas which may be permanently affixed to such a name. This reaction is interesting, and while neither endorsing or rejecting it, we can still consider its significance. The name fits the band well; it is provocative, and the phrase has many meanings in different contexts, yet it is internationally relative and understood. And because of this, it sets the tone for experiencing the diverse feelings mentioned above that are created by the music of The American Dollar. Sorry for the delay, I placed my vote (yes). Nice music!
You haven't voted yet Ruben, btw! I noticed the bio is taken from their homepage. Can we use it? Did you ask permission from the band? Edited by Jimbo - September 12 2007 at 08:40 |

Sorry about that. I forgot to actually vote.
What should we do with the addition? Would you like to write a biography for them, Hallogallo? |

Wow, sorry for the rather late reply. I have been busy and no where near a computer for a while. Yes, I did copy that bio/summary from their website. I can email them for permission, but if worse comes to worse, I can try to write a bio. I'll let you know if they gave permission.

I was going to add them, but I found no info about them other than their bio in their website. |

Once again, I apologize for the late reply. I didn't get a reply from
the band, so I guess I'll have to write a bio myself. I'll re-post my
submission as I have the line-up details now. So here we go:
Biography/Summary: A rather quiet & lesser-known duo of Richard Cupolo & John Emanuele hailing from New York City. The American Dollar are a reminiscent of such well-known Post-Rock acts as Sigur Ros, The Album Leaf, and Explosions In The Sky, but still manage to produce their own original & cinematic sound. The American Dollar's music can be seen as sections of atmospheric & ambient pieces and mixing it with huge orchestral rock but with a slight influence of Electronic music. With two excellent albums (which were independently released) under their name so far, The American Dollar seem to be going places with plenty of experimentation and excellent musicianship. It wouldn't be surprising if their music was used in huge production films/tv specials. Infact, the bands music has already been used on an episode of MTV's The Real World. The American Dollar is an exquisite listen that will not disappoint the fellow Post-Rock fanatic and are slowly going on strong with nothing but good things to come. A truly pleasing hidden gem in the Experimental Post-Rock genre.
