Lamb Lies down on Broadway Movie

I have been hearing this for almost 20 years.  I seriously doubt anything will come of it.  And perhaps that's for the best, since, given the unbelievable expectations that would surely ensue, it is highly unlikely that any film - even one "steered" by Gabriel - could live up to its own hype.

Well Reed you are entitled to your opinion, even if it is wrong.

All I've ever heard about a movie for the Lamb, was that Gabriel's request to make it into a movie split them up during the making of the album.

I heard somethin different, Gabriel was the one who was against any movie made from Genesis material, they were asked by a movie producer for the rights of the short story printed in the cover of Live album, and Peter and Tony were against the project..

BTW, do you imagine Phil Collins refusing $$$$$$ for the rights of The Lamb?

Reading the interviews in Hugh Fielders book I gathered that Friedkin had read the short story on the back of the Live album - about the woman 'un-zipping' herself on the tube train, and wanted Gabriel to write for him. It was during the reheasal sessions for the Lamb. Gabriel kept running out to the phone box to call the US. He wanted to put everything on hold while he went to work with Friedkin, but the band refused to delay the recording of the Lamb.

As well as the Friedkin connection - I think Alejandro Jodorwosky, famous South American director of EL TOPO & The Holy mountain (cult 70s pseudo-surrealist cinema) was also involved with The Lamb project for a while in the seventies. Gabriel appears on the Jodorwosky documetary (apparently he's a big fan of the film maker). I'm not sure if Jodorowsky was in on the Friedkin project or one of his own.

On a interesting side note before David Lynch ruined the Dune project (even by his own admission) Jodorowsky was attached to the project and had cult French cartoonist Moebius in on the deal as well as PINK FLOYD & MAGMA lined up to do the music. Imagine the potential?? The Floyd & The High Priests of Kobia!!!!!

And who do we end up with........... ****ing TOTO!!!

If the Lamb film project ever gets a produtcion green light I will eat my European prog Collection!!!

I doubt even a completely obscure, artistic, Franco-Italian film production company with no distribution power whatsoever, but no commercial pressures either,  would even go near it.

Shame though - I'd like to see it done also - and despite his large-scale cock-up of DUNE - I think David Lynch (in the right frame of mind & no Hollywood execs on his case) could be the man for the job. Certainly more so than Mr Friedkin anyway. Lynch is certainly the only person (now that Kubrick is sadly no longer with us) who Hollywood would give a load of money too to make such a non-commercial project. Maybe Tim Burton???
