I never got my arse into gear to get tickets this time round. Couldn't afford it at the time either.

To be honest, as much as I love Rush, I cant stand seeing them in Wembley. The sound is apalling.

I'll be seething with jealousy, come the night though!

With the thought of venues, I do believe I'd rather be in Camden Town's Jazz Cafe and be within 10 feet of some master musicians rather  than up to a 100 or more metres away - not sure whether you have the real thing in front of you. Besides there is more chance you could be talking to these guys at the bar between sets at the Jazz Cafe.

Prog in London

You have got to check out ‘The Peel’ in Kingston, S.W London who from a standing start this year have hosted gigs by the following artists

Blind Ego

Darwin's Radio

Tinyfish debut gig

Strangefish

The Reasoning

Galahad + Ezra

John Young

Landmarq

They have coming over the next few months

Glass - All the way from the USA

The Watch - All the way from Italy!

Jan Six and the Cryptic Clues - Twelfth Night - Reunion

Jadis

They have some great gigs lined up for 2008 so keep an eye out

So if your near South West London, come along and ‘Keep Prog Alive – See it Live’

The Peel has its own House of Progression My Space so check it out.

Ye, the Peel is a good venue. Only a small room but the sound is good. As Dick said, small venues are so much better and you can mingle with the band after the gig (as there's no backstage at the Peel).
Recommended!

I'm hoping to meet up with Mystic Fred before the gig, so perhaps you and Vicky can meet as well.
I say "hoping" as it's kind of important that I meet another friend before the gig as he has my ticket! I'll PM you when we've arranged something.

So true, Dick. I saw Yes at the NEC in brum once, (90125 tourDead) and I've never been so disappointed at a gig. The set was bad enough, but the fact that the band looked like ants on a portable TV situated on another continent entirely hardly enhanced the experience.
Intimate gigs are way better. Lately I've seen Gong, Hillage, Ozrics, Space Ritual, Eat Static, Here & Now. etc etc, and always with a crowd no larger than one or two thousand, and more often than not, less (do I mean fewer?....no... smaller). Pressed up against the stage is the only place to be.

Talking of Glass, I've received a plea for help from them. They want to know if anyone can put them up while they're in the UK, as they're on a tight budget. If anyone can help, please PM me.
Thanks.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I find the following list useful - henry has usually noticed a few things which are not posted elsewhere

also from the melodicrock.com message board

Quote Alex Skolnick (Testament, Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Ozzy etc...) brings his jazz trio to London for their debut performance tomorrow night at London's legendary Pizza Express jazz club, in Dean Street.

After this he returns to the U.S. for more dates opening for Rodrigo Y Gabriela and then back to working on the new Testament record.

Might give this one a try - I do love Alex's work with Testament, but I must admit I have no knowledge of his jazz work (which I've read unfavourable comments about). Might give it a try anyway.
