Speaking their FTP downloads, the FTPs at least don't seem to work on my computer. It worked at home but not on my laptop

They have a lot of free mp3s up for download on their website, check some of them out. You'll undoubtedly like them, they're one of those bands who everyone can make room to like |

i think that they try to take advantage of the "hype" around them now that are successful... if it bugs you that much, don't buy all these extra releases and wait for the new stuff... |

I'm very excited to hear the new material, although I sadly missed out on the Heima showing in DC. Here's a link to the trailer, it looks absolutely stunning.
http://emichrysalis.co.uk/ Takk is still in constant rotation in my CD player and I've had it for a year and a half. I would love to see a continuation in the Takk style (and by that I mean more uplifting than Untitled, yet IMO more melodically focused than Agaetis). I'm sure whatever direction they take I'll love. |

Definitely check out Múm. I think someone once referred to them as "Sigur Ros' creepy little sister". It's a pretty accurate description. Mum incorporate a little more electronica, but they are still very similar. Although IMHO Sigur Ros are totally unique. |

I'm disappointed - neither of these players are avant-garde! Al di Meola.
haha i know. but the poll itself is avant-garde
|

Sigur Ros are definetely the most inventive band in the prog rock genre. I mean whilst most bands do nothing more than copy modern composers, mostly minimalistic (Arvo Part, Steve Reich, etc), they have managed to create a sound of their own. Though I did like Takk.. very much I hope the next album is not in the same direction, because although Takk does retain their sound, an album which goes further into a more simplistic style would be a disaster.

Sigur Ros are an interesting band. They stick out like a sore thumb in the Post-Rock genre and there are even fans of the genre don't consider them as full Post-Rock band. They certainly aren't the only unique band in the genre.
I'm looking forward to listening to their new material since I haven't seen them repeating themselves in their past releases. Something more epic than Takk? More ethereal than Agaetis Birjun? Slower than ( )? Who knows, but I'm sure it'll be something good. On another note, here are some bands that Sigur Ros fans will enjoy: IMMANU EL http://www.myspace.com/immanuelband PORT-ROYAL http://www.myspace.com/uptheroyals Hope you guys enjoy them or at least give them some well needed attention. |

I saw the dvd at the Helsinki screening and it was fantastic (saw their acoustic set too ), and the reason they are putting out the compilation-kind-of-thing is that they were suggested to record a normal live album to go alongside the dvd, but they decided to go for something more interesting. If I've understood correctly they are working on a completely new studio album at the same time, and that will come out sometime next year.
For me Takk... is a slight disappointment, but what album wouldn't be following The Best Album In The World (the brackets album that is). The image I have of the band members is that when they are in the studio doing their thing they are completely in their own world going where the tunes take them to. I can't see any outside pressure digging its way in there, but there is a danger that they end up repeating themselves to some extent. We'll see. |

Why don't you try them yourself? The 'post rock' tag says nothing about them, IMO, and they certainly don't sound like Godspeed..., Mogwai or whoever. http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1566 |

I think they should try to look for new horizons, changing a little bit their style, but mantaining the excellent sound they gained through the years. I think my fav is ( )

For me Sigur Ros is the most unique band in a genre where bands seem to copy themself far too often, I sure hope they mantain their quality!
