Topic: Blue Cheer - protoprog? Posted: October 16 2007 at 20:08 |
They're a pretty well known proto-metal band, they took some progressive influences on and never really got the respect they deserved. Anyone else agree?

I don't think Blue Cheer's ground-breaking heavy rock has been ignored. I know a lot of people who get into early punk and early metal recognize what they have contributed.

pretty influential group.. and there is NOTHING like putting them on to
punish the neighbors. Never seen any connection at all to prog.

Well I like that band but I don't think you should categorize that band so vastly, but I do agree with you when saying that we should pay more attention to there work and subsequently proportionate the respect they surely deserve, maybe I would label them as prog related.

Not prog. They made some evolution from their proto-metal debut in albums like New! Improved!, but no prog traces can be heard in their music.

Proto-Zean, maybe. Proto-metal, possibly. Proto-prog, only because of their association with LSD)

since you bumped a thread that was like 7 months in the grave... I'd say the prevailing opinion that they don't really belong here is probably a good assumption hahha.
