In the early to mid 60's the French avant garde group Les Structures Sonore, gained some limited popularity for their unusual music, played on very unusual instruments. In particular, pre- Radiophonic Workshop the BBC used their music to provide unearthly soundtracks to plays and the Beeb even devoted whole arts programmes to the group. One could argue their's was yet another type of new music using innovative instruments, in a small way lead to the explosion styles in progressive music.
Websearching I came across this discography (plus the photos give some idea of the instruments used for Les Structures Sonore's music):
I have a vinyl ep and 10" of their music purchased over 30 years ago , but curious if anybody else has come across this group's music or even has any of their music on CD?
Two or three years ago I discovered that LSS's founders, Lasry/Baschet were still working in Paris.
