From Mexico, a talented veteran multi-instrumentalist: JOSÉ LUIS FERNÁNDEZ-LEDESMA. As a solo musician (many times togetehr with MARGARITA BOTELLO) he has released a number of excellent, challenging, yet also colorful albums in the RIO/Avant-prog vein. It's a peculiar RIO, since sounds and rhythms from Mexican deserts' folk appear now and then to add exotic textures to the recurring mysterious atmospheres. One of his most challenging efforts "Sol Central" has been explicitly praised by RIO master Chris Cutler.
Occasionally, he will flirt with prog-fusion and symph prog, as he did in his 2003's release "Designios", but mostly, his line of work is closer ro Henry Cow, Art Bears and the electronic cosmic side of krautrock than to any other prog trends. Here's his Myspace blog: http://www.myspace.com/josluisfernndezledesmaq
He's really worth it. He was a foundr member of Nirgal Valis, and currently he is alternating his solo project with the band Saena (that's another subject). I have four of his albums, and definitely, he would dignify the Archives enormously with his eventual entry.
Kind regards.

This guy is amazingly busy. Had he released his compositions for documentary, theater and modern dance opuses, his discogrpahy would even be vaster than it already is. Before the end of 2007 he reselased "Híbridos", while simultaneously filling the guitar-keyboard duties in Saena, a newly formed supergroup of Mexican avantgarde musicians (Margarita Botello is also a member on voice, piano and accordion)... but that's a subjetc for another thread.
Regarding José Luis Fernández ledesma in PA... any news yet?
Kind regards.

Just saw this. Don't know who's supposed to give you any news about this, but I'd be interested in taking him for Avant; is that ok?
If so, do you have a bio of this musician and his discography to add the albums?

i might write a biography in the following days. I don't have all the information for his entire dicography - I only own 5 of his albums, and I'm unaware of the tracklists and credits for the other ones. I'll see what I can do gradually.
And yes, this guy is SO TOTALLY AVANT-PROG...

Here's the bio.- José Luis FERNÁNDEZ LEDESMA is a big name in the Mexican avant-garde musical scene. He is acknowledged as an adventurous creator and a proficient musician: his performing skills include guitars, keyboards, various ethnic wind, string and percussion instruments, something like a Mike OLDFIELD with a The writing and arranging modus operandi for FERNÁNDEZ LEDESMA’s material is profoundly based on atmospheres, going from the ethereal to the somber and from the dreamy to the inscrutable, always dense and mysterious, at times colorful, other times grayish. The combination of acoustic and electric instruments bears enough amounts of mixing console processes as to make the original sounds go somewhere else. Instead of using traditional instruments according to the standards of fusion and prog-folk, what FERNÁNDEZ LEDESMA does is incorporate these ancient items as parts of the sonic amalgam that would match his modernistic vision. Influences range from krautrock (POPOL VUH, CAN, early 70s TD) to JOSÉ LUIS FERNÁNDEZ LEDESMA’s recordings are definitely a must for all lovers of avant-garde music dominantly based on mysterious atmospheres and dense ambiences. His music is real sonic painting, more than conventional music.

YOU'RE WELCOME!!!
And no, Fernández Ledesma is his first last name (a composed last name, as it happens sometimes with Villa-Lobos, Diez-Canseco...)
He belongs in the F section.
