I'll give Nazareth a vote.  It's been a LONG time since I've heard Hair of the Dog, but I remember it was an excellent album.

BOC! Nothing like the aural assault of their first several albums, one of the most aggressive and intelligent early metal bands you'll hear...even "heavier" than Sabbath if you ask me.

Well I dont really have an opinion on the matter, but seeing Nazareth reminds me of my dad singing along to Hair of the Dog, and I find it funny.

UFO were great with Michael Schenker, but Blue Oyster Cult were a moving target - there's always been something extraordinary about their music, despite the obvious hard rock root.

Rainbow had Blackmore, so come in a close second - for their Dio incarnation alone.

Budgie actually stated on their albums that they weren't Prog rock, Thin Lizzy aren't even Prog-Related, IMHO, and I never liked Dan MacCafferty's voice (a poor reason, I know, as the Nazz were great).

I think you missed out Wishbone Ash, the Scorpions and Judas Priest... Wink
The important thing is not to stop questioning.
