I always considered these two Rush albums as one double album. My vote goes to Hemispheres...what is your opinion

A Farewell to Kings(5 stars) - they reached perfection with that album, Hemispheres(4 stars), although  good, lacks a bit of direction here and there

Has to be FtK by a short head, due to Xanadu, Closer to the Heart and Cinderella Man.

A farewell to kings, because
* both are, to a certain extent, uneven from a musical point of view, but AFTK still makes the more unified impression
* Geddy's voice suits AFTK's music better than Hemispheres' (except The Trees)
* AFTK contains Xanadu
However, it's a 5-star (and my all time favourite) versus a large 4-star, so what the heck...

I like Farewell more, but I think Hemispheres is the better album.

Farewell for me, especially because of "Xanadu".

I remember vividly that I bought A Farewell To Kings in 1977, it made me a Rush die-hard and it's still one of my favorite albums but the successor Hemispheres turned out to be quite a disappointment for me, especially the titletrack fails to keep my attention. Fortunately Rush was 'back on track' with the next album Permanent Waves Thumbs%20Up

These are my two favorite Rush albums.  Up until just recently, I would have voted for Hemispheres.  However, A Farewell to Kings is now my favorite of the two.

A Farewell To Kings is a work of pure genius. One of those albums where creatively the band were right in the zone. Probably my favourite Rush album.

Hemispheres was a very difficult album for the band. "Side Two" is as good as anything they've ever done but the title track lacks cohesion and hasnt stood the test of time.

Tough call.  For today, I'll give the edge to "A Farewell to Kings".

Yeah, I agree with every word Tony says here. AFTK is my favourite Rush album. There's something magical about this one for me that I don't get from other Rush albums (as much as I love them).

Hemispheres I've never seen as in the same class, to be honest. In my review I wrote that I found the title track far too busy and convoluted and I still have the same opinion. The second side is great, no question. I think the band made absolutely the right decision to streamline their sound somewhat after this album.

Here the question is simple: On which album appears La Villa Strangiato?
HEMISPHERES

The problem I have with AFTK is "Madrigal".  I have only listened to that track all the way through one time. However, I absolutely love, love Hemispheres.  La Villa is my favorite Rush song of all time!
