Topic: does anyone actually rate the band Pallas Posted: December 07 2007 at 12:54 |
amongst all the underated bands out there, i think pallas is the most. yes alrite, they do kind of stay locked in the cage of 4/4 and 3/3, but they are fantastic musicians that write great music. they deserve some more credit. A LOT MORE.

Not one of my favourite bands by any means, BUT they've definitely gotten better over the years and yeah, I don't see them mentioned here much. I see 'The Sentinel' as being almost a sort of 'sixth form prog' album; has a certain charm in that respect (though there is at least one forum member that really hates it! ) but the production really has not aged at all well. Didn't like 'The Wedge' at all.
Haven't played 'Beat The Drum' for ages but remember being fairly underwhelmed by it. However, both 'The Cross And The Crucible' and 'The Dreams Of Men' have seen an upswing in quality in most departments, IMHO.
I see what you mean about the 4/4 thing; compared to most prog acts I guess their music isn't that taxing. But I'd rather that, a band making music they are comfortable with, than desparately trying to be 'prog' by making lengthy, convoluted songs for the sake of it- a feeling I get from far too much modern (symphonic and some prog metal too, IMHO) prog.

Agree, Pallas is a great band indeed and underrated. As salmacis said they've been improving with time, their last 3 studio albums are excellent and their Blinding Darkness DVD is a real demonstration of their quality and intensity, so for the people unfamiliar with the band or for those who had only listened The Wedge(their worst) i highly recommend to try that DVD or any of the mentioned albums(Beat the Drum, The Cross and the Crucible and/or The Dreams of Men)

You mean 3/4. Unless of course, this band is REALLY progressive and made up a new way to gauge time.

I'll take good songs in 4/4 over needlessly complex songs in any number of times.

Still a vibrant color of purple after all these years. Almost as if it's never been played.

The Dreams of Men is one of the best albums I know, and "The Bringer of Dreams" and "The Last Angel" are unforgettable epics. So yes I love Pallas! And also, yeah...they should be mentioned more here, but that applies IMO to a lot of neo bands...

They have aged well. The Sentinel is shaky nowadays but C&C and DOM are great. I've had a few DOM songs in my head the last few days. What a great album. Haven't heard that they are working on anything new however. Maybe these geezers need to get off their duff while the juices are flowing.

I only know "Crown of Thorns" from the "NEO" DVD but I have to agree that's an amazing song, one of the best of what I know of Pallas (and the best song of that DVD)

I'm quite fond of the Sentinel once I get past the first few tracks. Heck,, in the mp3 age, I don't start listening until pt.1 of Rise and Fall. I haven't listened to the Dreams of Men enough to review it yet, but my initial impressions are very positive. Beyond this, I haven't heard anything by them, but I am actively interested in getting more.

I only know "Crown of Thorns" from the "NEO" DVD but I have to agree that's an amazing song, one of the best of what I know of Pallas (and the best song of that DVD) | i bought "Arrive Alive" CD at laughable price in my beloved Lugansk bargain store, and it blew me away back in 2005...and still does...sometimes I wholeheartedly recommend you to check Euan Lowson's take on this stunning track That "Paris is burning" song is frightfully actual-sounding
