I bought my first PT album a few weeks ago and they impressed me greatly with their musicality in a way DT never have. DT are perhaps better musicians, but PT make much better music.

Early Porcupine Tree beats almost any Dream Theater.
Later Porcupine Tree best everything but Images and Words.

Although DT got me into Prog, PT is the band I reach for more often these days. Their early and late stuff both just have a better longevity than most DT. I still like DT, but I think PT has had a better evolution over time.
