Sabbath are good, not crazy about them though. Deep Purple all the way.

I love 'em both, and I'll feel disloyal to the other whichever I choose, but Sabbath managed to release a greater number of unequivocally classic studio albums than Purple.

Black Sabbath had some very interesting and revolutionary ideas. Grandfathers of metal in my mind, plus they made an entire song built around the Diabolus in Musica... the Devil's tri-tone (augmented fourth). That song was "Black Sabbath", appropriately enough. Plus, if you add the numbers of the frets in the main riff (0, 12, 6). you get 18 which is 6 times 3, or 6+6+6. Evil%20Smile

Deep Purple... "Smoke on the Water" annoys me to no end plus 13-year-old kids think they're cool because they can play it all loud and distorted at Guitar Center. Dead

This thread is irrelevant as a discussion about who's better Bach or Beethoven.
Cool

It really isn't fair for me.  As of this post, I've only been listening to Deep Purple for about a month and I have only one of their albums, MACHINE HEAD.  I'll vote for Black Sabbath anyway just because I have more of a history listening to them.

Man tough call!!  You have a couple of "eras" with Deep Purple to compare. It almost comes down to an album by album comparison.
 Paranoid vs Machine Head
 Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath vs Burn
etc...

Genius is always allowed some leeway, once the hammer has

been pried from its hands and the blood has been cleaned up.

DEEP PURPLE not all the way but still....

What I love of DP is Jon Lord!! and then Ian Gillan.

From Sabbath ok Ozzy is perfect but doesn't surprise me. Perhaps Geezer surprises me.

Purple Had all their line ups exellent moments.

Sabbath didn't.

Yeah perhaps you're right. But what you think about the song paranoid or N.I.B's riff when the kids play that too think they're god.

Black Sabbath, it doesn't matter if Ozzy or Dio on vocals, for me, Iommi created heavy metal!
