Emo, as in the stuff that gets labelled Emo these days, is all bad, but better than mainstream Rap.
Underground Rap can be really nice, but I haven't explored it thoroughly, and old (real) Emo from the 80's to mid 90's is one of my favourite genres anyway (it hasn't got anything to do with contemporary "Emo"), so I voted Rap. Edited by Philéas - December 22 2007 at 21:59 |

Alternative/Underground Rap is actually very good. Other rap can also be pretty good, though it really depends on the artist.
Emo (the modern stuff) is all crap. I haven't heard much from the real Emo phase though.

I won't say either is worse because that implies that one is better.

I smell a lot of elitism in this thread.

Prog, because it is only marginally better (if at all), and doesn't make any money.

Emo definitely, at least rap has a bit of creativity and substance to it.

Emo haircuts are kind of cute (on girls). To my knowledge rap doesn't
even involve any particular haircuts, so rap is easily worse than emo.

Tuz, have you ever heard any Emo on any Polish radio? I had to go to a band's Myspace to find out what the stuff actually is, it seems totally absent from any local media.

Both are like hair metal, each are destroying the charts, and each are getting large radio, MTV, and all around media play. Like hair metal though, they will go down, FAST, and fifteen years from now, our children are gonna be saying, "how could that have been the cool thing, it's so stupid".

Of course I meant that both of them were bad. |

None is worse.
I'm a huge fan of hip-hop (I've been listening to it more than prog this year alone) and I like some songs and bands from the "emo" scene most notably 30 Seconds to Mars. It's better to enjoy music rather than dissing it. Why not explore both genres a bit? I'm pretty sure you'll like at least 1 artists from them. |

Rap's been a long time dying. Conjecture: more stratified society = more people living (and dying) the gangsta style = more popularity for rap |

Why not? You're not going to die trying and you'll gain more music to enjoy. It isn't a sin to like hip-hop or emo either. What will you loose trying? Edited by chamberry - December 23 2007 at 12:50 |

I know, it's just everytime hip hop songs sounds the same, and the more I listen to it the less I can concentrate on it, and at the end of the day, I realise how bad it sounded.
I do respect underground rap like immortal technique and Jedi mind tricks though.
