If you were making a mixtape of any ten songs that are essential to prog rock what would they be?  trying to fulfill as many genres as possible.

Yay, I love to compile mix-tapes, although my themes are always dorky. Like this: here's a tape that fulfulls your criteria and only uses songs with one-word titles:

Hhai by Magma (for Zeuhl)
Fracture by King Crimson (for art rock)
Freedom by Art Bears (for RIO)
Alifib by Robert Wyatt (for Canterbury)
Halleluwah by Can (for psyche)
Sickening by Meshuggah (for prog metal)
Megalopoli by Area (for fusion)
Metropolis by Kraftwerk (for electronic)
Backdrifts by Radiohead (for prog-pop)
Soundchaser by Yes (for symphonic)

None of these bands are obscure, unless you just haven't bothered to listen to Art Bears yet. =P

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb/ Money/ Sheep
Gentle Giant- Advent of Panurge / Free Hand / Why Not
VDGG - Refugees/ Killer

Its usually one or two songs, depends what fits., but for the purposes of this thread theres ten bands, pick one song from each
