Topic: The Bedlam in Goliath favorite song Posted: March 25 2008 at 14:14 |
Yeah, yeah, another Bedlam poll, really original... Well f**k youuuuuuu!!!!!! Now, in all seriousness, the album is definitly hard to swallow, probably their hardest, but I think itīs very good! With the exception of Cavalettas maybe, which might be TMV worst song this far. I for one canīt vote already, for I am torn between Ilyena and Goliat

I actually got into this one quicker than with Amputecture. Tourniquet Man and Cavalettas are definitely the weak spots on this record (Cavalettas has some awesome parts, but the whole is way to choppy in structure). As far as the best tracks go, I think these tracks are all around the top somewhere: Metatron, Goliath, Agadez, Ouroborous, and Conjugal Burns. The other tracks I love as well, and it was difficult not adding a couple more to that list, but those five hit the highest points, I believe. However, I do have one favorite, and that is Goliath. It is catchy, complex and just plain fun.

That's an odd coincidence, because I finished listening to the album a few minutes ago .... I agree that it's probably the least immediate album by TMV, but it oozes quality all the same. That said, I'll join those who voted for "Goliath" - in my opinion, one of the best ever tracks by the band.

I'll be the first to vote for Metatron, but there is a lot of quality songs on here, and I dont think a single week song (yes, I do like Tourniquet Man).

I might as well clarify my stance on Tourniquet Man and Cavalettas now, too. I like both of the songs, and at least 6 out of 7 times I listen to the record I will listen to them, but often times when I'm in a pinch or I'm sharing the material with someone else I will skip them. No doubt they are not what the band is capable of, but they are not bad.

I actaully really really like Cavalettas...my only problem is one section where the riff repeats a little too much...don't know my current favorite

It is always constantly changing...which is why I like this CD a lot. Goliath is always near the top...so I will go with that one.

Not a gigantic fan of the album really, but I think Metatron is outstanding.

In case some of you didn't knew, Goliath is a remake of Rapid Fire Tollbooth from Omar's solo album "Se Dice Bisonte, No Búfalo". I find the song on Mars Volta's album much more enjoyable than on Omar's album since it's much faster and aggressive, and it has that tasty second part of the song which Rapid Fire Tollbooth lacks.
I'm not a big fan of the album, but my favorite song ever since I first listened to it was Goliath so my vote goes to it.

Conjugal Burns is the best, it ends the album so good

Toss-up between Metatron, Askepios, and Conjugal for me...I do agree that Tourniquet Man is the worst thing they've ever done, but otherwise they have yet to disappoint me.

Wow, the only 2 songs I like in here have no votes "Soothsayer" and the opener.
Soothsayer is the most listenable one, even if it is repetitive (it plays the same motif for about 90-105 times), so I voted for it.

Actually, I think if you compare bedlam in goliath to the previous ones - De-loused in the comatorium in particular - this is a more accessible album! this doesnīt mean itīs a worst album... It has fluidity, what makes it easier to listen!
right now i canīt choose a favourite song, I can choose one that pleases me most - Ilyena ! the whole album works really good as a single piece, expcep for 2 songs, wich we all know wich ones!
In the end I really think Its the 2nd best Mars Volta album, and Itīs probably a candidate to one of the best 2008 prog albums!

Goliath stood out the most for me, so I'll vote for that.. I like the first 5 tracks quite a bit, but can't enjoy the rest as much. I'm probably too exhausted to pay much attention after Cavalettas or something

"Goliath," I guess. That's a pretty sweet track; I recall some reviewer said there were remnants of "Schizo" in that song, and I can hear why he said it.
"Metatron," of course, has the added benefit of some real emotion (from the Volta no less) in the "Maybe I'll break down" line, and I'm rather fond of the album's opener and closer. But "Goliath" for the win.
