Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Just start listening now. Good. Which categories do you think might fit them well? Symphish/ post rockish/ art pop qualities. Could be a good candidate for Crossover.

^^thanks Logan...they are a hard one to call, aren't they? I wouldn't go for symph personally; possibly folk (they have used Troy Donockley on their debut) or crossover...I might get Lee to have a listen when he puts in an appearance...

Definitely I wouldn't put them in symph, now having heard more as I was typing while listening, I should have highlighted the folk. Up to the Folk team, but to my ear just based on a little music at this time, I can't see it in Prog Folk. I still think if chosen for a proper Prog category that Crossover is best (but of course you know it much better than I). Otherwise I would think Prog Related based on that small sample of music..

Are you saying Prog Folk isn't a proper prog category? I can only judge so far, by seeing them live and I'm not sure where their placement should be. Their new concept album which will be released in the future, is all about travelling through America, it sounds like an interesting concept. Crossover sounds the most likely for me though. Micky, also take a listen to Panic Room, I think they're Crossover too. |

I won't consider Prog Folk a real prog category until The Folksmen are in. ;)

nice one add them with Spinal Tap, Bad News, Albertos Y Lost Trios Paranoias and 80s Genesis and we could start a Comedy Prog sub.
I really need to hear more Mermaid Kiss to be sure, but tentatively say yes for Xover unless a better fit is found in Prog Folk (or any other sub)
Soooo - Panic Room - they're being discussed >HERE< |

Napster has 3 Mermaid Kiss albums.. listening to them now... and so far... I am leaning yes to Xover. Wasn't leaning that way just on MySpace.. but it is a bitch trying to judge a group just on 3 songs.
will try Panic Room after MK |

Their release, Etarlis, is one of my favorites from last year. I think Prog Folk would likely be the closest, but it's definitely has symphonic tendencies to my ear. It's intricate and captivating, yet mellow and incredibly melodic.
I just had to register to voice the opinion. Cheers, Paul |
