i always thought that there was link between british comedy and music after all the late george harrison and monty python , bonzo dog and python neil innes (common link being 'do not adjust your set') eric idle actually able to play the guitar and not pretending on the rutles, bill oddie another musician as well as comedy writer..yes certainly a connection..just lately i was sent a poll conducted by rolling stone magazine which placed kurt cobain ahead of jeff beck in the top guitarist section!?? obviously talent not being an option..but what 'supergoup' would you like to see? mine would be keith emerson and jeff beck -drums? well either ginger baker or kenny jones but I'm not sure..would there be  a stage big enough for their egos?

Every musical movement that is big enough has to produce some good musicians who wouldn't have had the incentive to start playing without it.

still say keith and jeff definitely...but john mac interesting..too thoughtful tho to ponderous...we want egomania..flash geezers...maggie...hmmm thats the thing owth female vocalists they are have such distinctive voices...annie lennox, maggie bell,(wuthering heights woman bugger my memory yeah her..alison moyet, aretha frankiln....so so distinctive..why did the who pick kenny jones..nothing wrong with him but all those run ups. to phrases in the small faces..listen to those tracks..be dum ba be dum dum dum.and  back into the song...a style of his own....ok...weirdest line up then....irene handel on sousaphone, bert kampfart on maraccas, george formby on bass tambourine..no no ive gone into bonzo dog territory now...erm...ok its starts with bjork on vocals...and it has to be a real mismatch...so bjork on vocals, john lord on keyboards, kenny dalgleish no shut up...bert knobbs, harry fowler, the singing postman, margaret rutherford, the mormon tabernacle choir, lois lane, and phil collins (another fictional character) and who would the support band be then? jason and the argonauts!....starring steve stills, kenny lynch, ali bongo, and the combined efforts of the Rexton Kneeworks ensemble..with Alf 'mines a pint' Tibbs on vocals..can I go home now?

I'd go with Arthur Mullard on Tuba, Sid James on the Tin Whistle, Barbara Wndsor on bongos, Norman Wisdom on Kazoo, Derek Bailey on guitar (cause only he could), Les Dawson Keyboards and Joe Piscquali (if that's how you spell it) on vocals.

Very sorry to read about his passing.Davison was a great drummer and even regarded as being on a par with Keith Moon at one time.Keith Emerson would have carried on in this band if he and Jackson were on speaking terms. They hadn't spoken for a year prior to the band splitting. When ELP was formed it was automatically assumed that Emerson left the Nice for 'artistic reasons'. Great cliche! Of course they did well to get the supergroup tag and the rest was history etc but The Nice would undoubtedly have been big as well and had a sizeable following.

The later Refugee line up was basically just a reformation of the Nice but with a different keyboard player. Their one and only studio release is excellent and more enjoyable to listen to than anything the Nice did IMO. That doesn't mean they were a better band or that Moraz was better than Emerson but it seems they were more focused than the Nice were.Ironically Emerson criticised Moraz for leaving Refugee to join Yes and 'betraying' Jackson and Davison. Pot ,Kettle etc!
