Having witnessed the "arid " progressive 80s when very little prog was going on anywhere, the main artists that supplied any kind of vibe was Ultravox, Japan, The Fixx, Icehouse, Depeche Mode and Magazine. But there were also some lesser known others that did blink in another proggier direction: the Durutti Column, Simple Minds, ABC, Babble, This Mortal Coil  and New Musik. I have a large selection but I want to leave some for you all to suggest. Who rang your prog bell back when all was pretty silent?

Wetton/Manzanera-1987LOL.remember?.....i don't have such an open mind and curiosity like you to embrace new artists. You seem to know so many, many..you are amazing!Thumbs%20Up

Me, i was ecstatic  when ABWH CD came out and was waiting for a new Hawkwind!
I know , i know , i am living in the past, and unable to follow the winds of changeThumbs%20DownLOL

But patience always pays: i discover and loved Depeche Mode in the 90s...just need to take my sweet timeLOL

Unfortunately did not follow the solo stuff.  My kids were born about this time and I found my old record buying ways severely compromised by formula/diaper purchases.  I'll have to check out what's still available.   I have a great EP of theirs (Ring of Fire/The Morricone Themes) that is awesome.

Well, Jammun, diaper days are over (I had 5 , so I wiped a lot of it!) and I strongly suggest to get Ridgway's The Big Heat , you can get it on Amazon for a few peanuts!

Yah I only had 2 but agreed thankfully those days are long past.  Thanks there's some other stuff I need to get as well, might as well pad Amazon's bottom line as WoV was one of the few that was actually being innovative in the New Wave context.  As mentioned their Morricone tracks (Fistful of Dollars theme, GB&U theme) are priceless.  In fact Morricone his very own self should probably be on PA but man I ain't starting that thread LOL

The 80's are a huge dead-zone in my library, but there were some artists who made it worthwhile:

Peter Gabriel
Anthony Phillips
Steve Hackett's classical guitar material
David Sylvian
Brian Eno
Kate Bush
