Topic: Lesser appreciated Opeth songs Posted: August 19 2008 at 09:40 |
In other words, one of the greats of each album that is seldom mentioned amongst fans. Some of these are personal favourites of mine, but they are not as well appreciated as the classic songs like The Moor, When and Ghosts of Perdition. Take your pick? EDIT: I am a massive fan of MAYH, i find it just so balanced and well written, so it's April Ethereal for me.

Chalk one up for April Etheral. I always prefered Dirge for November over The Funeral Portrait.

I would pick The Funeral Portrait, but something about Deliverance gets me everytime I listen to it. It might be the one drum roll that Lopez does in the second half of the song. I know it's not the most complex drum roll I've ever heard but it gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. Opeth's most underrated album for sure! * End Opeth fanboyism*

Nice thread.
I'll go with White Cluster this time around.

Deliverance is my favorite Opeth song of all time. Should be played every live show. The ending is so heavy and br00tal and just amazing.

I love all of these songs, but I had to give it to The Funeral Portrait.

I thought pretty much everybody thinks that Deliverance is the best track off the album. I think so too (or is it A Fair Judgement, better check out my top 100 list again...) and it's also my favorite from this group. The Funeral Portrait is fantastic too, some killer riffing there.

The Funeral Portrait and To Rid the Disease. I'm surpised the latter one I mention isn't well liked. I thought the build up to the chorus was beautiful.

It surprised me for sure. I thought you'd go with Beaneath the Mire and say "DUUURRR OPETHZ' BESTEST ALBUMZ FTW LOLZ" (Sorry, that one was way too easy to let slip)

Deliverance is no way underrated among fans, in my oppinion it is suerly OVERRATED!!!!!!!!!
From your list my favourite is April Ethereal, the little drrum solos in the middle are really majestic and it has this black metal feeling that I love. I just love all MAYH album so much!

I'll go with Deliverance, my favourite song by them. April Ethereal is also very awesome. I wouldn't say either are underrated, though.

i never said "underated". I said "lesser appreciated", meaning that they are not as popular as the classics, but are still awesome. This poll has nothing to do with "ratings".

Indeed...but I voted for Beneath The Mire.

Still Life is my favorite Opeth album and you know it. I do love Ghost Reveries though.

while 'Deliverance' is definetly the most underrated Opeth album, 'To Bid You Farewell' is the best song off that list (nothing beats a good crescendo).
