Yep. I got a call on the phone yesterday, and they tell me that Aselin Debison, (who is a fairly famous 14 year old singer around the maritimes, and she's pretty big in japan too, she's a rising star.) is having auditions on saturday for her touring band (she's going on tour to support her new album), and her manager told me they wanted me to go there and try out. They also asked for my bandmate's numbers and called them. And we accepted! I mean, sure I don't like the music, it basically sounds like Avril Lavigne, or the Jessica Simpson one's little sister (the name escapes me).

If we get this gig, we'll get paid hefty. She is signed by sony music.

So yeah, I'm doin it all for the Speens (money). My band will still be together and everything and I'm gonna play them usic I want, but I'm doing this for the moola, so I can get enough money for a chapman's stick, and the experience, and the recognition.

The songs are so easy too, I hope I get accepted. If you want me to send you a tune or two by her to see what I mean, pm me.

I'm pumped for sellin' out, can't wait!

However, apparently she did a cover of Mike Oldfield's "Moonlight Shadow" a couple years ago (she used to be celtic music, but her new stuff is avril lavigney stuff). And it's on Mike Oldfield's site somewhere...

Nothing wrong with selling out, but why so negative about the leading lady, be possitive, make her music better than you consider it to be now.

Cheers mate

I find this a disgrace to art. How can you of all people support these kind of people?

They're the reason mainstream music isn't progressing!

Epic.

Mainstream music isn't progressing because mainstream people aren't progressing, most people don;t want complex compositions etc, they want something easy to listen to and digest.

I say squeeze em for every penny they got Prog Bassist

sellout schmellout...anything that keeps live music going is a good thing. Congrats! It may not be your dream band but you still get to see the world, play live music, make some money and have some fun...sounds great to me.

If you've got a gig, you've got a gig.

It's not selling out - it's part of what being a musician is about - being able to play and get paid for it!

The main part is obviously playing what you write and getting paid for it - but that can come later.

Great stuff, PB - ENJOY!!!

Good luck PB.........anyone who accuses you of selling out should agree to send you a cheque for $5000 every month to cover living expenses!!!!

awesome man, and believe me this is an awesome way to get your foot in the door of the industry. Before my dad made it with the 5 man electrical band, he did session work and toured with a number of artists he wasnt fond of (including a country star) so heck this is your big break if you make it.

Any experience of palying live on stage is worth having, and just because music is uncomplicated doesn't mean it can't be played badly. Take the gig and take the money

deals. I hope I get this. I should get it anyway, cuz the other bassists that were asked to play were all in crappy punk bands, and play really badly, but you never know, I might get really nervous and f**k up, and they might not.

Even though I know I'm better, doesn't mean I can't f**k it up!

If you're self aware enough to understand that, you should be fine.

I have full faith that you'll use that money to advance yourself musically and go on to play far more challenging and interesting music! *cough*prog*cough*

There's one song that I'm having trouble with learning, I've learned all the others, except for this one, it's called "thank you", and the bass is SSOOOO LOW IN THE MIX!! It's almost like there's no bass there, but there is. And I was told I have to learn it exactly note for note like it is on the song, but how can I tell if he does any fills or anything if I can't hear it? yikes. Meh, I'm sure I'll get it.
