Maybe VDGG is just not your cup of tea.

Van der Graaf is only for true Progers, not some Pallas-sh*t, or something! Cheers:)

Do start with the compilation. My favorites of VDGG (I almost own them all) are probably Still Life and Godbluf.

Their style is quite unique and I've been listening to them since 74 after having discovered Genesis and Yes. Peter Hammill is a great composer. Their songs are quite complex and it is not an easy band to approach.

Hope this info was usefull. Regards.

This lp is what made me fall in love them. Personally it was Godbluff that gave me difficulties. We are all proggers. Quit being a pussy about it and take the plunge...Go for the gusto and get Pawn Hearts!!...immediately....everyone...quit babying the newcomer as if his gentle ears have never been exposed to unusual music before....He's here on this site....right!!

Compilation albums are usually a no no, but I can highly reccomend 'From the Least to the Quiet Zone' This was where I started with VDGG, and went on to Godbluff, World Record and then Pawn Hearts.

IMO it's an excellent collection of their more accessable material. Its gets you used to Hammills voice, set against some of their less 'far out' songs.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I started listening to them with Pawn Hearts. It took many listens to get aquainted, but since haven't regretted it.

Hi folks;

I´m really looking forward to the new album due next 25th and to the Godbluf & Still Life (my personal favourites) remasters with bonus tracks next Summer!

Pawn Hearts is one of the very best prog albums that ever came from England, IMO...
And above all, is punk

Well put.

Even for some prog fans, not all "classic" progressive rock is for everyone. I don't know if everyone here considers Marillino a "classic prog band" or even likes them- but I don't.

I started listening to VDGG with "I Prophesy Disaster" - a great album. But would like most before me recommend you start with "H to He..", "Pawn Hearts" or "Still Life"

You could do a lot worse than download the MP3s on this site - put them together with some of the earlier Hammill tracks and you've got a pretty good picture of where they were at up until The Pleasure Dome/The Quiet Zone (a good album but very different to their previous work, closer to Hammill's late 70s/early 80s albums). Vital was a big disappointment, and definitely not the place to start.
