Elegant Gypsy was the second album by guitarist Al Di Meola, and today it is considered a Fusion masterpiece. This albums does not have one weak track. This albums also features great musicians like Lenny White ,Jan Hammer,Paco De lucia, and Steve Gaad. Pick your favorite track from this jazz fusion classic.

This is an excellent album, that "latino" feeling and refreshing sound is more than unique. I love Flight over rio, my fav one

I don't want to get bashed , but I feel this album is a little bit overrated. Not enough jazz for me. It's more like Shred-fusion.
Now Chick's Corea-Return to forever that's a jazz fusion masterpiece.

But you will!!! Evil SmileEvil Smile

Naaa just kidding,

You have all the right to dislike the album, but Al Di Meola not enough Jazz?? Now that's strange for me. Meola is one of the most interesting guitarists I've heard in the jazz/rock fields, he's established as one of the most important (if not the most) latin rock guitarists (IMO, over Santana). However, all of this is an opinion.

And, you're comparing oranges and apples. Return to Forever is more keyboard-based (with Corea, of course...), while Al Di Meola bets to a latin jazz/rock style, more guitar-based.

BTW, the three 74-76 era RtF albums include Al Di Meola... That's half of the discog Shocked
This is not my beautiful house...

Whatever it was it blew us away back in high school. Even our music teacher, a purist if there ever was one,  who was also a band leader in the German Wermacht during World War II was impressed.

I'll more or less agree with that.  It's a very good album, but other than Di Meola showing off his amazing technique, there's nothing that is truly great about it.

"Race With the Devil..."! That track is one of my favorites by Al, a great mix of hard rock burn with just enough jazz cool to separate it from the rest, except of course jazz for purists. Geek
