So, a quick search suggests that there's been no discussion of this group here yet, which is a shame. They're already listed on the archives thanks to their contribution to a Magma/Christian Vander tribute album (which I'd never heard of and will now have to check out!) so that's surely enough of a reason to at least consider them for a moment.

So, who are they? "All-girl Japanese mentalists" just about sums them up, I think. The only album I've heard in-depth by them is "Back to the Mono Kero" but it's absolutely superb and utterly unclassifiable.

Stylistically, it's all over the place, with bursts of pure avant-rock interspersed with spacey freak-outs, excursions into pure girly pop (yep, there's even a cover of "Pop Muzik" on there) and countless other sounds besides... They're really quite impossible to adequately describe.

Avant/RIO might be as good a place as any to stick them, but I wonder if Eclectic Prog might be a more applicable term? I'm a bit hazy on that subgenre (it was created after I left, I believe) so I don't know whether they're too Japanese, too recent, too anything, for that category.

There's no myspace, alas, but youtube throws up a couple of dodgy live videos which might give you some idea of what I'm talking about. Alternatively, PM me and I can fix you up with a sample or two... Wink

haha, this outfit is way too "out there" for Eclectic, I think.  We might have a home for them in Avant, though.  Highly quirky.

Yeah, they're pretty awesome... I'd love to get hold of some more of their stuff, but it's pretty hard to find in the UK.

Well the only song i know from them is the one that comes in the Hamtai album, so they might be in the same prog vein, interesting...

Yeah... I can understand why they were rejected for art rock... LOL

The ZART team (which I suppose, officially speaking, includes me Embarrassed) are considering adding them, but no one's really nailed their colours to the mast yet.

By the way, Alternative Tentacles had three free songs in mp3 format from the album "Endangered Species" (2004).

Ooh lovely! Thanks for the tip-off. I'll grab those, 'cause it'll be good to hear how their sound's developed (if at all!) since "Back to the Mono Kero".
