I just heard the original demos of Vinyl Confessions with Steve Walsh on and with Walsh's tunes -on  youtube; VERY strong material was lost when Steve left after that in my opinion!!!!!

Realy powerful. Some tracks were really lost KANSAS classics that might have become (in a parallel universe) solid reasons to surpass the uneven results of the "Audio-Visions" album.-

The Walsh material really shines here, becomeing at last an equal contender to fellow writer Livgren. 'After the fire' and 'Imagine love', with added production and instrumentation, would have brought further glory to the prog genre in the 80s; 'Children of the shadows' states a mre emotional richnes than other Livgren songs that are longer; 'Breakout' is brutal and catchy, the 'Belexes' of the 80s.

All these things were not meant to be. Pity of all pities!!

Racing in A  is the other song

Kansas is going to be in Kalamazoo tomorrow, too bad I'm having my graduation party then. If it's possible, should I ditch?

^Proto-Kaw (RIP) also played a great version of DOMNS. There version was slower less metal and more jazz and improv but I enjoyed both versions.

As for your STE question If I remember right from an interview I read  Dave Hope played on three tracks (I don't know which) and Kerry had insisted his presence on the project  to make it a true reunion.  They let Billy sing the lead vocal on Look at the Time.

Had my iPod on while cutting the grass and heard "The Death Of Mother Nature Suite". Man, is that a killer song or what? I think it's one of those that gets lost when compared to the other songs, but it's definitely one of their best.

I listened to this the other day. Like you, a couple of songs I didn't care for ("Gas Fun Alley" comes to mind), but overall a great return with that classic lineup.

I've noticed that Greer and Hope are both credited; however, how much did Hope really work on STE? I don't know the answer, but I'm hoping he was there a great deal. Greer is good, but Hope is one of my all time favorite bassists and still consider him one of the best.

Time to bring this thread back to page 1: Tonight I dragged the DVD of Kansas' Omaha, NE show on the Vinyl Confessions tour with John Elefante. I remember watching this on MTV's Saturday Night Concert series back in high school and bought the DVD copy a few years ago. Actually not a bad performance, but you can tell that Elefante wasn't all that comfortable. What huge shoes to fill when Walsh left. Not sure it's possible, but Vinyl Confessions is a decent album; however, pales when you compare it to it's predecessors. What are yoru thoughts regarding Vinyl Confessions?

Should be getting close to the new DVD.

Absolutely.  Clap

However, you should check out Glossolalia, a Steve Walsh solo album around the turn of the century.  That is fantastic music.

But I've always said that Kansas needs both Walsh and Livgren to make 5 star albums.

I love all the songs, but you pinpointed the big three. Modern prog masterpieces, all.

I was pleasantly surprised by that one myself,  as was I with Somewhere to elsewhere.  Both Livgren and Walsh proved they still "got it"!

What an odd set of facts to have listed for someone on IMDB:
- "Trademark: his long and thick mustache"
- "Teaches a Sunday school class"
- "Of Swedish descent."
Someone really went the extra mile on that bio.... Confused
