I also vote for the inclusion of this band and I have a review ready for inclusion. 

It is a superb band and a worthy inclusion to a genre already consisting the likes of Genesis and ELP.

Me too is pushy. The one Aleph album I have is very good. And......... this band is prog rock.

I just left a message with the Symph team to check on the status.  I know that Ivan is generally away from PA for a couple of weeks to take care of personal business, but hopefully a team member will check in and let us know the status.

As I said in the Symphonic thread, had a free afternoon, so had time to check this band, this is my opinion of ALEPH, based in the full tracks on their MySpace site:


  1. Banshee: The first thing I noticed is the annoying vocals by Joe Walmsley, sounds like an acute version of STING. The music is nice, and even when they claim influences from King Crimson, I feel more influences from Alan Parsons Project and STYX 
  2. Morning: Strange song with Neo Classical Metal connections at the start that suddenly turns into some sort of AORISH Prog
  3. Dreamer: Is a nice ballad, very melodic strong connection with Pavlov's Dog
  4. Mountaineer: Has a very classical oriented intro that reminds me more of the album JOY by THE VENTURES than to a Prog release, then the keyboards turn into some sort of Wakeman influenced style, sadly the structure keeps being very light.
  5. Man Who Fell: Sounds close to ASIA with some Neo Prog fugues
  6. Heavens Archipielage: Has a nice piano at the intro but then turns into an AOR track with strong ASIA hints
My PERSONAL opinion is that they belong in PA, but I see them closer to  Crossover and if not accepted....Prog Related.

It seems we're destined to never agree Ivan! LOL Geez, I pretty much have a problem with everything you just said! Oi! I mean come on...STING?! LOL Oh well. I'll tell you what...if they don't make symphonic or cross over then I just might take a break from this site and figure out whether I know what prog even is, cause I seem to be having a hard time with these subgenres! LOL
 
Anyways...I'm listening to Morning right now, I have to admit I agree with your assessment on that one. Just never made that connection with Neo-Classical Metalish intro until now (althought the whole AOR thing I disagree with of course!)
 
Now with the whole Asia comparisons...which Asia? Because the one I know doesn't sound like Man Who Fell or Heaven's Archipelago at all, in fact I was always reminded of YES on those songs. But I'm going to take another listen just to see if there is any merit to your comparisons, as well as the rest of your comments.

In going over some bands I've followed up through PA's suggestions, I came across Aleph.
As I couldn't find anything other than a thread dating back to Feb 2009, I'd like to ask that the team have a listen.

The Sting comment is only about the vocal range, that sounds similar to STING, but a bit more acute IMO, please listen it carefully and you will find the VOCAL RANGE similarities.

Don't worry, disagreements and debates is what made of PA the best place in the net for Progressive Rock.

But check any other site and you will see the same genre discussions or the easy solution of adding 5 or 6 sub-genres to one band in order not to miss any note, some even add what we call "A Tailor's Box" phrase, including "Other genres not specified", so they will not fail, we take the risk, and only the one who takes a risk may fail..

The difference is that here every genre is in charge of a team of 3, 4 or 5 members and in other sites only the owner decides what is what.

Didn't remembered the band by now (the night of your reply my father died and I've been away for since time to spend with my family) so listened that song from start to end right now.

The introduction clearly reminds me of a softer version of Rising Forces first album and during the development of the song they wander through multiple sounds that go from AOR, to Glam Rock as in Europe, with that typically late 70's - early 80's keyboard.

Not talking aboiut being identical musically, more in degree of coplexity or Progressiveness if you want (A term I never liked,m because you can't measure progerssiveness), soft ballad with Aorish leanings more or less in the style of ASIA's softer stuff (Heaven's Archipielago) and AORISH, bland in the case of "The Man who Fell"
 
I see nothing from Yes, except for a keyboard solo at the 5th minute of "Man Who Fell", then maybe some references to 90125 era Yes (I prefer to stay with ASIA LOL), but that's all.

Hey, you just agreed in the Neo-Classical Metal orientation, that's an advance.
 
Just to end, I believe it'Aleph is a  Crossover band, but that's a call for Micky and company, I respect the limits of the teams too much to tell them what to do.
