Damn, I'm liking this one. So peaceful... Better than the first single IMO.
I have to get this album someday.

Thanks a ton for posting - Heres the rest of the details:

LIMITED EDITION BOX SET includes:

2 CDs
DVD with 5.1 surround sound mix + high resolution stereo
116 page hardback book of lyrics and Lasse Hoile photography
40 page paperback book of Hajo Mueller's drawings for "The Incident"
Housed in rigid slipcase
Limited Deluxe Edition Box Set / Pre-order now for £59.99

I'm liking the sound of it very much so, but it doesn't seem so attractive for the price tag... Thats probably around 125-135$ AUD for me including postage, and I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend that much on the Collector's Edition, however enticing and/or nicely presented it seems...

Ouch I heard it. I guess I'll need to hear what SW says about this. I was bashing DT for being copycats, but now this. A tough pill to swallow. However, SW didn't attend a well known music school.

play.com and amazon.co.uk suggest that the album will be split into 14 tracks whereas wikipedia is suggesting that it will just be one 55 minute track, which is correct?

edit: i think i worded that badly so an image is neccesary:

It was worded perfectly IMO, and I've never heard that it would be split into the tracks before... Its meant to be one 55 minute track on CD1, and the other 4 tracks on CD2, to stress the difference and the lack of relation between the first track and the other four.

I'm not going to go for the deluxe edition, but it looks like it the poor peoples version normal version is going to be worth it.

I am still considering getting it, but when I can buy about 6 other CD's including THE INCIDENT for the same price, it seems a little bit over the top.

Sounds strong, but the Dogs influence is really clear.

I would say its clear, but I have to say, it stands its own ground as a track, and I really like it.

FIRST REVIEW:

Quote Over the years, trying to determine what is true "prog rock" and what is not has become an increasingly tricky proposition. In the early '70s, it was easy -- any band that performed "suites" that extended across entire album sides and dressed in capes and/or cloaks was a dead giveaway. However, when the early '80s rolled around, most former prog rockers trimmed out the fat from their compositions (and exchanged their medieval wear and kimonos for what looked like sports coats). Ever since, there have been bands that have aligned themselves to either of the aforementioned prog rock approaches. But along came Porcupine Tree, who somehow have found a way to incorporate both into their 2009 effort, The Incident. Set up similarly to Rush's 1978 classic, Hemispheres, The Incident is comprised of a single long song -- the title track -- that features many different movements (which would have taken up the entire side one back in the good ol' days of vinyl), as well as a handful of shorter compositions that close the album. The aforementioned title track will certainly be the talk of the album, as it manages to incorporate bombast and melody (the sixth movement, which shares the album's title), rock ("Octane Twisted"), Yes' folky moments ("The Seance"), and Tool-like grooves ("Circle of Manias"), before it all gently floats away on a cloud of fairy dust ("I Drive the Hearse"). That said, unlike early proggers who favored meandering instrumental doodling over succinct songwriting, Porcupine Tree always favor the importance of memorable songs over flashy solos, which certainly makes the group one of the top modern-day prog rock bands.

they may have only 3 and a half starred it, but it sounds so good!

Thanks for posting - Not sure what to think about this... Allmusic did give RELAYER (YES) 3/5 after all...

Allmusic - bah, not as bad as RS, but still pretty mundane. I'd never take advice from them about an album over the word of those who know what they are talking about.

Eg: Progarchives.
