I agree. Screw finding other prog fans, I can't find other rock fans. |

I'm going to take exception to that remark on the grounds that it perpetuates the "women don't like prog" stereotype. Because they do. |
But really? How do you find a female companion that likes Prog? Walk into the woods and call for her?

You'd have to ask my husband - I am not sure what he was looking for but he got the prog part right.

Is boring the right word.....or is it that they just don't 'get it' ? I've tried to get my son in law into some classic prog and his complaint is that the songs are too long...sounds more like attention span issues because he says that the players are good and he likes most of the melodies. The people in my family who have listened to the prog I played for them think it's too 'weird' ...whatever they mean by that. And I was playing accessible stuff.

Yes, ELP is only for people who can stand having a synth burn through their ears. In other words, not for me.

Because every prog rock song is 20 minutes of technical w**kery and pretentious lyrics.

....which is precisely why we like it!
My friends and I took our wives to see Canada's The Musical Box perform "The Lamb" a few years ago, and the wives hated it. They seemed to think they were going to see Phil Collins era Genesis or something.
I don't think they were impressed by the Moog Taurus pedals.

While it's true that most prog fans tend to be male, it is not as if all men like prog. Although prog may have been popular (even in a commercial sense) in its heyday, it has always been a niche genre, and its appeal will never be broad. Personally, I don't care if other people find prog (or other music I like) boring, as long as I have a handful of friends/acquaintances who share my tastes.

They have 'had' their fair share of female fans over the years . I suspect there was a little more to them than just synths
